This comfortable retreat enjoys an appealing countryside setting yet is just 4km from the island capital. Skopelos offers myriad stunning views and one of the most attractive is yours to enjoy from the terrace of Galazopetra; this notable feature along with excellent facilities and a thoughtfully designed interior make the property an appealing choice for smaller parties and honeymooners in particular. Here, evenings on the terrace will prove a delight as the azure sky gradually transforms into an amateur astronomer's delight with countless glittering stars surrounded by black-velvet heavens.

From this peaceful region, green wooded slopes populated with pine, cypress, fig and olive trees extend down to Skopelos Town's whitewashed houses fringing the waterfront. The air is fresh, clear and lightly perfumed by the wild herbs and flowers which flourish in the surrounding countryside along with some remarkable bird life (previous visitors have noted kestrels, buzzards, Elenora falcons and scops owls soaring above the Kampos Valley in clear view from the terrace) while, in the distance, the dramatic headlands of neighbouring Alonissos can often be discerned through the summer heat haze.

Constructed in traditional Skopiot style, the house has been lovingly built by a charming local family to exacting specifications. Comprising carefully selected local materials, the stone façade combines pink and beige-coloured sandstone with rare shades of the attractive blue granite after which the house is named ("gala" meaning blue and "petra" meaning stone). Two vast picture windows invite the splendid views into the living/dining room and highlight the clean lines and attractive pastel shades of the colour scheme. Further thoughtful touches include duck egg blue rafters and kitchen cupboards that give a traditional yet fresh twist, cleverly exposed brickwork in the living area and an eye-catching stone map of Skopelos imaginatively inlaid into one of the walls. The semi-rustic themed décor continues through to each bedroom where wooden rafters and wrought iron beds adroitly combine with subtle contemporary touches.

Tucked to one side, the part-shaded dining area is ideally located next to the barbecue for a lazy lunch before heading back to your pool and sun lounger to soak up the sun (and that view!).

From Pefkias pretty lanes wind down to the harbour of Skopelos Town, built at the foot of a Venetian castle and encircling a wide, natural bay with a sandy beach on one side of the main harbour. A profusion of Byzantine churches are squeezed in between the shops and tavernas amidst the narrow, cobbled streets. The harbour front offers bakeries, cafes and fish restaurants ideally placed for sipping a Greek coffee whilst watching the local watercraft glide in and out of the harbour. Nearby beaches such as Glifoneri (4km) and Glisteri (6km) are easily accessible within a 15 minute drive, and further afield, Agnondas, Panormos and Kastani are all worth exploring as is Glossa in the north. Rich in green fields, olive groves and tiny churches the surrounding countryside is a paradise for walkers.

A small local taverna (Taverna Fotini) is a convenient 25m (approx) from the house and is open in Peak Season only. We would mention that when the taverna is open there is a possibility that a hum of dining/diners may be audible from the house terrace.

Villa rental includes private return taxi from Skiathos airport to the ferry port and ferry crossing to/from Skopelos.
