Quintessential Greek character oozes from this unpretentious, stone cottage enjoying a wonderful position just above Lefkada Town with outstanding views across the sparkling Lefkada channel towards mainland Greece and far beyond (even neighbouring island Paxos can be glimpsed on the horizon). Fringed by tall twisting olive trees, Galini is a haven of relaxation - the villa’s name means serenity - yet at the same time is only a few kilometres from the excellent amenities and lovely stretches of wild virgin beach found in and around the island’s capital.
Occupying the majority of the ground floor is a cosy, open plan living/dining room and kitchen with double doors opening conveniently onto the pool terrace and inviting those irresistible views to become a virtual part of the interior. Adding charm and atmosphere, traditional Lefkadan features include an ornamental stone fireplace, a wall of exposed stone and sleek wooden furniture. A general décor of soft pastel shades further enhances the pervading sense of calm.
To one side of the living room three wooden steps lead up to the principal double bedroom, next door to which you will find the main bathroom while two spacious twin bedrooms and a shower room are located on the first floor (the views from the twin bedroom at the front of the property are, once again, remarkable, particularly of an evening as you gaze out over the twinkling lights of Lefkada Town to the mainland).
Stepping outside, Galini’s attractive pool area is fringed by lawn, open and shaded terracing and a large in-built barbecue perfectly positioned for culinary activity whilst at the same time keeping an eye on younger party members enjoying the pool just a few steps away.
With the placid waters of a lagoon on one side and gleaming Ionian Sea on the other, the nearest beach is Agios Ioannis, a beautifully unspoilt stretch of coastline just 6km away and close to Lefkada Town. Venture only a little further afield you are spoiled for choice when it comes to gorgeous beaches; Agios Nikitas (14km), Mylos (15km) and Kathisma (16km) are a few of the many highlights and all are within easy distance or, on the most south westerly coast of the island (about a 45 minute drive), the simple beauty of Gialos, Egremni and Porto Katsiki is world famous.
Boat hire, fishing trips, parasailing, kite and wind surfing are just some of the widely available aquatic pastimes alongside predial activities such as trail walking and biking, visits to the waterfalls of Nidri or even the island’s own winery. We should also mention that a rich and varied selection of birdlife frequents the Divari and Ivaria lagoons making them a magnet for bird-watchers.
