Patitiri is an absolute delight. This authentic Cretan country house has been beautifully refurbished, skilfully remaining fully faithful to its rustic origins whilst at the same time offering all contemporary comforts. Exposed stone archways, vaulted beamed ceilings, flooring of distressed wood and local ceramics plus a scattering of vintage earthenware draw you into the property’s welcoming embrace while the larger than average garden, private pool and covered dining terrace are a haven of sun kissed relaxation.

The immaculate interior is very stylishly decorated with a blend of modern and classical furniture sitting effortlessly alongside walls of terracotta and part-exposed stone. At the heart of the lower floor, the open plan living area is bordered by a well equipped kitchen/diner, a shower room and two en suite bedrooms with stairs leading from the twin bedroom up to the first floor and a further en suite bedroom that enjoys tempting views of the pool and garden from its substantial terrace.

Special mention must be made of the generously sized bathroom off the principal bedroom, which is a classic example of Cretan design featuring tiled floors of eye-catching red, green and white motifs rising up to a domed ceiling and attractively curving shower walls.

Outdoor living comes to the fore as a stable door opens onto the garden area; here you will find a refreshing private pool (with designated children’s section) and various little pathways meandering through the garden of flower beds, palms and shady mature trees. Lazy days of gentle relaxation are sure to be spent on the open and shaded terraces before heading to the the adjacent summer kitchen area where the whole party can enjoy dining under the stars.

Patitiri sits within the typically Greek village of Korakies, a very desirable location for locals and vistors alike being home to good amenities which include a minimarket, bakery, bank and casual cafés (1km) plus of one of Western Crete's most highly regarded tavernas, ‘Nykterida’, is within walking distance of the house (400m).

Family-friendly, with soft golden sands and laid-back tavernas, the beaches of Kalathas (4.6km) and Tersanas (6km) are also very easily reached.

A fascinating cross between the historic splendour of Florence and characterful architecture of Venice, Chania (6km) is an atmospheric gem with a jumble of bustling shopping streets and countless alluring restaurants clustered in and around one of the best-preserved Venetian ports in the Mediterranean. A visit here really must feature highly on any list of holiday activities.

Visit the spectacular Gramvoussa penninsula and Balos Bay. Boats leave the port of Kavonisi (Kissamos Kastelli) every day for Balos.

Visit a Winery - Wine tasting

The Manousakis Winery is the culmination of the dream and passion of founder Theodore Manousakis. Ted, as he is more frequently called, was born in Vatolakkos in 1943, and spent his early childhood years in the village until the age of 11. For reasons much beyond his control and much too complex for a young boy to understand, he left his home to find a better future in the far away “Promised Land”, America. Following his university education in the U.S., he entered business and was successful in a number of business endeavours including industrial security, real estate development, and hotels. Meanwhile, he assimilated in the great melting pot of the world, America, and nearly forgot his native language and Cretan traditions. Yet during the years away from his native village he always yearned to return home and find his roots; if not permanently, certainly more than as a mere visitor. Wine was a way of life in the village for as long as he could remember from his boyhood years. What a way to pay tribute to and honour the Cretan traditions and way of life, he thought. And, what a wonderful and civilized way to bring people together to enjoy the simple joys of life! The combination of nostalgia or “nostos”, as the ancient Greeks made reference, along with the perfect soil, sun, and weather conditions of Crete were the driving forces behind our first vineyards in the foothills above Vatolakkos. For Ted, the Manousakis Winery represents his roots; his yearning to return, his tradition, his heritage, and, above all, his family. Our logo with the three flowers called “Manousakia” in the Cretan dialect, (from which our name is derived), represents his three daughters. It is only fitting that the inspiration of this symbol is a blending of the beauty and exquisite fragrance of nature and the warmth and comfort of family! Ted Manousakis has his permanent home in Washington, D.C., but the winery remains a family-run business. His youngest daughter, Alexandra, moved to Chania in 2007 following studies at New York University, and now manages the Manousakis Winery. - See more at: http://nostoswines.com

Stavros Beach

Beautiful Sandy beach with a good choice of tavernas. Made famous when used for filming the Anthony Quinn film: Zorba the Greek.

Tersanas bay

Lovely small beach with a couple of tavernas, great for swimming and lunch or dinner afterwards.

Kalathas Beach

A beautiful sandy beach with an island that you can swim to!  For refreshments there is a beach cafe/taverna.

Marathi Beach

Marathi is a small cove about 14 km east of Chania Town. This cove has crystal clear water and there is a supply of sunbeds and parasols.  Marathi is particularly popular among the locals. A couple of good fish tavernas and fine sand make it a popular destination and it is recommended to go in the week rather than at weekends.

Elafonissi Island

At the extreme south west corner of Crete you will find Elafonissi beach and the tiny islet of the same name. Wade across the shallow lagoon to the pink tinged shoreline of this remarkable island which is protected by the Natura 2000 organisation. In high summer it does get very busy. Best to go as early as you can to beat the crowds!

Kournas Lake

This breath-taking natural lake is the only one in Crete, home to some of Crete's interesting birds and other wildlife and the brilliant aquamarine waters are a wonderful backdrop for a spot of lunch. Afterwards, you can rent pedaloes or a small boat for half an hour and row yourself around the lake, and work up an appetite for supper!

Visit the Palace of Knossos

Excavated in the year 1900 by an English archaeologist by the name of Sir Arthur Evans, this is a most impressive palace, and we recommend that you hire a
guide in order to benefit from their wealth of knowledge. This makes a great day out for all of the family.

Have a wander around Chania

The original capital of the island (since 1971 that honour has been passed onto Heraklion), Chania is one of the prettiest towns in the whole of Greece  - perhaps on a par with Monemvasia, Nafplion and Corfu town. The city is reputed to be the oldest city in the world, and boasts the mix and match of Venetian and Turkish influences and architecture.
