Sympathetically designed to blend in subtly with its natural surroundings, the smooth wooden panels, neutral paintwork and sleek style of this smart contemporary home enable it to nestle inconspicuously amidst picturesque wooded countryside just 3.5km south of historic Ponte de Lima.

Sitting at the end of a tree lined driveway just outside the typical local hamlet of Carvalhal, with the trickling waters of the nearby Río Trovela pleasingly audible in the background, Casa do Bosque offers up-to-date and beautifully presented accommodation amidst the most natural of settings.

Steps lead the way up the side of the house to a wood-decked terrace which incorporates an in-built barbecue and wide glass doors that slide back to reveal an inviting open plan living room. This neat interior is made light and spacious by a combination of white painted walls, cream floors and wide windows that showcase the lush foliage of surrounding mature trees, whilst every modern convenience is ingeniously housed within a design that is sleek and seamless.

Up above the house on a raised level is the swimming pool, which sits within a spacious lawned plot, conveniently equipped with a covered terraced area and poolside facilities. Bordered by mature shrubs and foliage, it looks out towards the cluster of typical homes that make up the local hamlet. It is a perfect retreat in which to soak up the charming environs of this unquestionably scenic corner of Portugal, whilst at the same time being only a 10 minute drive from Ponte de Lima, the country’s most ancient town and home to elegant squares, ornate architecture, an 18 hole golf course and arched bridges spanning a river bordered by sandy beaches.

This market has reportedly been held in the same spot since around 1125 and can be a lively event!

During the summer months most towns host a local festa, usually centred around a religious event or figure. Traditional music, local costumes, dancing, fireworks and lots of tasty food are just some of the things to enjoy at these events.

Pass between undulating hills covered with the vines which produce the lightly sparkling and very tasty wine of the region.

The people of the Alto Minho still continue with many ancient handicrafts passed down through generations.
