Just inland from the dazzling white hilltop town of Vejer de la Frontera, a rural lane meanders through pretty countryside and leads the way to this beautifully presented home, which offers smart and comfortable accommodation that is ideal for couples or small groups.

The house sits within its own private garden within the grounds of a small fruit farm and enjoys a picturesque outlook across trees of oranges, with a pleasing panorama of open fields stretching out beyond.  The wide covered terrace that spans the front façade is likely to become a well frequented spot, its whitewashed archways framing the rural scene and ornate Moroccan lamps lighting it up at night. To the side, steps mark the way to the pool, which sits elevated within the orange grove and looks out across to the mountains in the distance.

Inside, the light and contemporary rooms are stylish and homely, with the care and attention to detail of the thoughtful owners being much in evidence. Equipped with central heating, this is an appealing choice for winter holidays, whilst ceiling fans and mosquito nets ensure comfort in the height of the summer.

For sightseeing, you are well placed for visits to the charming 'pueblo blanco' of Vejer de la Frontera, which is just a 10 minute drive from the house and offers a wide range of shops and restaurants. The long golden beach of El Palmar is equally accessible, being 20 minutes away.

Go to the beach

The stunning beaches of El Palmar, Los Canos de Meca and Zahora are just 15 mins away by car. Within 30 mins you can be at Zahara de los Atunes, La Barrosa and Bolonia. All fantastic with fantastic golden sand and minimum development.

Bird watching

Vultures, eagles, hawks, storks, harriers and a whole host of other wonderful bird life to be spotted - all from the shady comfort of your own porch. Organised tours with a guide are available. The villa is midway between inland Europe and Africa, so along many a migratory route.

Visit Conil market

Fantastic flea market with plenty of hustle, bustle and atmosphere, every Friday morning.

Cádiz.

Some of the things to experience - visit the Cathedral, climb the Torre Tavira, explore the castle and get a sense of its naval history, visit the flower or fresh food market, go shopping, order the local fried fish at one of the many tapas bars - www.cadizturismo.com

Play Golf

Sunset supper

The thing to do for romantics and foodies alike. Some of the best fish restaurants can be found right on the coast, in particular Conil. Enjoy a local catch whilst watching the sunset over the Atlantic ocean.

Visit Tarifa at the far tip of Andalucía.

See the kite surfers (you could have a go yourself!), explore the castle, the quirky shops and tapas bars in the old town and marvel at the views of Morocco. Africa is just 11 miles away across the Straits. You can catch a ferry from here if you fancy a day trip to Tangiers.

Explore Medina Sidonia

See the cathedral and the Roman fortress and explore the old town that was once largely owned by the wealthiest family of Spain.

Bolonia

Be amazed by the scale of these largely unheard of Roman remains. A whole Roman city nestling at the foot of a giant sand dune on the Atlantic Coast. Afterwards enjoy fresh fish or paella in one of the hippy beach bars.

Visit Cape Trafalgar and Lighthouse

In 1805 the famous naval battle was fought just 5 miles off shore from the headland and you can begin to imagine the scene at this atmospheric and beautiful spot

Try whale and dolphin watching

You can take a boat out into the Straits from either Tarifa or Algeciras to watch dolphins, pilot and sperm whales.

Explore Sevilla

Discover its cathedral and the exquisite Moorish palace of Alcazar. You can even take a city bus tour - it's a great way to see the sights.

Take a drive and explore

Absorb the stunning inland scenery. The white mountain villages of Alcala, Ubrique, Grazelama and El Bosque are all within easy reach.

Visit Gibraltar for a day

Definitely not Spain and not Britain either. A good day trip - the best bit is the rock itself so take a cable car ride or taxi to the top and visit the Barbary apes and St Michael's caves.

Take the kids to the water park

Visit Doñana National Park

Take a boat from Sanlucar and see its southern edges or drive to Matalascanas and do the full tour in a 4-wheel drive desert bus! - this is Europe's largest birdlife reserve and quite unique

Festival del Otoño

Jerez de la Frontera holds its Festival del Otoño (Autumn Festival) in celebration of the grape harvest with a programme of events related to wine and sherry, lifeblood of the town, flamenco music and dance and Andaluz horses and carriages.
