Great Things to Do Near Casa Maymi
Leave the car behind and stroll just 600 metres to one of the areas fantastic sandy beaches. Playa de la Fontanilla has 3 fish restaurants and 2 beach bars to choose from, all offering fresh local cuisine and snacks.
Fresh fish and so much more
Not surprisingly, this Atlantic coast of southern Spain is renowned for its fresh fish and seafood. Conil has a great range of restaurants where you can sample the best, many of them right on the sand or very close to the beach. Experiment with giant prawn paella, fresh sardines, pickled whitebait or grouper cooked in salt. All washed down with a glass of ice cold local sherry.
Equine lovers will adore the How The Andalusian Horses Dance show at the Royal Equestrian School in Jerez; and the stud farm La Yeguada de la Cartuja, just outside the city, where you can see the mares and foals in their natural habitat.
Take a Catamaran Trip
Visit two very different places on the Costa de la Luz in one day, by taking a catamaran trip between the lovely city of Cádiz and the interesting sherry town of El Puerto de Santa María. The trip only takes about half an hour and is cheap. Don't forget your camera - the view of the golden-domed cathedral as you leave or enter Cádiz port is unforgettable.
In recent years a number of fantastic restaurants have popped up in Vejer. All open for a leisurely lunch or romantic evening meal. Sample traditional tapas such as tortilla or jamon or fried sea anemone, cuttlefish meatballs and the famous fresh red tuna (sesonal). There is also a great Moroccan restaurant, French cuisine, numerous Italian restaurants and quirky wine bars.
Shop till you drop
You might need an extra suitcase if you give into temptation and buy everything that takes your fancy, because Casa Maymi is within easy reach of some excellent shops. There are small and interesting ones in Conil, big names in the Bahía Sur shopping centre in San Fernando, designer labels in Jerez and Seville, and superb souvenirs everywhere you go.
Snorkel off the coast of Conil and see canons and canon balls left behind after the Battle of Trafalgar.
Kayaking & fishing
Take a kayak out around the coves of Roche or the marshlands around San Fernando paddling past thousands of Island crabs and flying fish.
Flea market selling clothes, shoes, bed linen, swimwear and much more. Wander into town, stroll around the market and then head for a leisurely breakfast or coffee. There are local flea markets in most local towns on alternating days.
Fresh food market
The morning market in Conil centre sells freshly caught seabass, bream, tuna and a variety of seafood. The town is also famous for its fruit & veg, especially the juicy red tomatoes.
Try your hand at baking fish in salt or preparing freshly made gazpacho at a local cookery school in Vejer de la Frontera. Day classes and tapas/market tours available.
