Originally built in 1881 this unique and imposing property lies in the heart of the countryside near Arcos de la Frontera and has been in the family of one of the world's most famous and respected sherry producing dynasties for over two generations.

Sedately positioned at the end of a long, private country track in an estate of some 900 acres, La Parrilla commands impressive rural views. In the distance stands the former Moorish castle of Gigonza whilst a grove of 400 almond trees starts next to the swimming pool. Whichever direction you choose to explore you will never be far from the vineyards themselves - still an integral feature of the 'hacienda'.

While remaining very much part of a working country estate with the normal comings and goings of country life, this will have no effect on your own privacy which is assured from the moment you enter the impressive front courtyard. A small family chapel lies adjacent to the arched entrance.

The owners have thoughtfully and tastefully refurbished the entire property to a high standard. Internally, rooms are generously proportioned and care has been taken to retain the character of a bygone era. Externally there is a shaded, lawned area to the rear with steps at the side leading down to the private swimming pool where the terrace alongside makes a splendid spot in which to enjoy a barbecue.

At La Parrilla you are ideally placed to explore this wonderful region - indeed you are spoilt for choice. A 15 minute drive takes you to the town of Paterna de Rivera which has all amenities including three local 'ventas' (country restaurants) and a pizzeria.

The spectacular hilltop town of Arcos de La Frontera is within 25km, Medina Sidonia (21km), Jerez (36km) while Cádiz and the unspoilt Costa de la Luz are around a one hour drive. The natural park of Grazalema, home to some breathtaking scenery, is an hour away while the stunning city of Sevilla and rich history of Ronda can also be sampled as excellent day trips.

  • Included in the price is a housekeeping service from Monday to Friday (daily cleaning and cooking if required).
  • Property Licence No: VTAR/CA/00860

Sip Sherry in Jerez de la Frontera

Home of sherries - a surprisingly wide range of types of wine are made in the unique Sherry method and you can watch it being made if you visit one of the several Bodegas in the region. Tio Pepe is especially well organized with tours and generous samples! It's easy to find too.

Visit Tarifa at the Southernmost Tip of Andalucía.

See the kite surfers (you could have a go yourself!), explore the castle and the old town and marvel at the views of Morocco. Africa is just 11 miles away across the Straits.

Explore Medina Sidonia

Visit the church and the Roman ruins and explore the old town that was once largely owned by the wealthiest family of Spain.

Bolonia

Be amazed by the scale of these largely overlooked Roman remains. A whole Roman city, tucked away in a curve of the coastline just north of Tarifa. You can follow your archaeological exploration with a great fish lunch right there on the beachside!

Visit Cape Trafalgar, its Lighthouse and Beaches

In 1805 the famous naval battle was fought just 5 miles off shore from the headland and you can begin to imagine the scene at this atmospheric and beautiful spot. The beaches here are superb too.

Cádiz

The old town is an absolute gem. Some suggestions: visit the cathedral, climb the Torre Tavira, explore the castle and get a sense of its naval history, or simply sit in a patio, bedecked with flowers and people watch.

Go Shopping

...for leather goods in Ubrique.

Explore Sevilla

Discover its cathedral and the exquisite Moorish palace or Alcazar. You can even take a city bus tour - it's a great way to see the sights.

Visit Doñana National Park

Take a boat from Sanlucar up the River Guadalquivir and then continue the tour in a 4-wheel drive desert bus! This is Europe's largest birdlife reserve and quite unique. Look out for the Iberian Lynx, wild boar and deer.

A day at the races

Horse racing right on the beach at Sanlucar. This event takes place twice during the month of August.

Visit Gibraltar for the Day

Definitely not Spain - and not Britain either. A good day trip - the best bit is the Rock itself so take a cable car ride, or a taxi or walk... to the top!

Take the Kids to Aquasherry Water Park

... outside Jerez. Make the children the excuse and have a great time yourself on the slides and plumes.

Play Golf !

There are some great courses in the area, all available to non-members. Montecastillo at Jerez and San Roque near Algeciras are the most famous but there are several others - Montenmedio near Vejer and the new course at Benelup.

The grand centre of the equestrian arts where daily displays of horsemanship can be seen.

There is much stunning scenery within easy reach - there's a beautiful mountain drive via Alcala, Ubrique, Grazelama and El Bosque.

Tapas & Flamenco!

There are so many great tapas bars in Jerez and the surrounding area, then after sampling some why not visit a flamenco show.
