With lush wooded hillside forming a picturesque backdrop to the rear and the ocean glistening invitingly ahead, the setting of this imaginatively restored village home is idyllic.

Sea and countryside are perfectly combined in the pretty stone hamlet of Viladesuso, which is set just back from the rugged waterfront of Galicia’s southernmost coast amidst a scenic landscape of meadows and woodland.  Within its traditional labyrinth of narrow streets and higgledy-piggledy buildings, just in front of the ancient church, a stone portal announces the entrance to Hermida.

Having been creatively restored and extended by its current owners, the charming 100 year old residence displays an eye-catching fusion of old and new.  On the ground floor, a stone-flagged entrance hall leads the way to two cosy reception rooms, encircled by thick stone walls and topped with wood beamed ceilings.  Above, the kitchen and sitting room have been cleverly opened up so that they look down onto this lower level from a galleried mezzanine.

On the second floor, the bedrooms are accessed from a wood-floored landing, on one side of which the principal suite is ingeniously hidden behind a sleek wall of wooden panels and enjoys sea views from both the sleeping area and its en suite bathroom.

Your days at Hermida will no doubt include many happy hours dining al fresco on the first floor terrace, looking out across the rooftops of neighbouring homes and admiring the ever-changing maritime scenes of the nearby ocean.  Gatherings in the downstairs dining room can be enjoyed whilst looking out through French doors onto the swimming pool, which sits privately within an enclosed garden of neat lawns and fruit trees.  Daily walks can be taken, either inland to explore the pretty countryside, or out to the coast where the walking trail of the Camino de Santiago winds its way along the shoreline.

For dining out and provisions, a nearby restaurant (900m) and local shop (1.4km) are both within easy reach, whilst the delightful coastal village of Oia (5km) is home to two excellent restaurants and the nearest beach.  Not to be missed, however, are the restaurant-lined streets, sandy beaches and elegant waterfront of chic Baiona, which is just 17 minutes away by car.

Access to the property is via the narrow streets of the hamlet and is therefore not suitable for wide cars. We kindly advise that smoking is not permitted inside the house.
