Built to a pleasingly high standard Villa Montgri exudes comfort and elegance.  Light floods into its spacious living area and well equipped kitchen, both of which open onto a covered terrace overlooking the pool.

Each of the four bedrooms is tastefully decorated, with two of them benefitting from en suite facilities.  Adding to the overall feeling of comfort is the convenience provided by the provision of WiFi and air conditioning.

The equally smart outdoor area incorporates covered and open terraces with two barbecues (one gas, one charcoal) and an outdoor dining and chill-out area with pull across awning.  Families with young children will appreciate being able to close off the pool area by simply locking the back door of the first floor and the terrace gates.

The traditional fishing village of Tamariu is only a 975m walk downhill from the house and boasts a pretty, sandy horseshoe beach fringed with a selection of family run seafront restaurants.  In the evening small stalls selling locally made trinkets are set up along the promenade and the occasional impromptu busker provides free entertainment, adding to what is a very Catalan family atmosphere.

Two small grocery stores and bakers provide basic provisions whilst all amenities and a colourful market can be found just 5km away in the bustling town of Palafrugell.

With so much so near you may wish to venture no further.  Nevertheless, a short drive over pine clad hills will reveal the shimmering turquoise bay of Aigua Blava, not far beyond which lies Begur, a delightful town of narrow, winding lanes and elegant colonial style buildings.  To see its 11th century hilltop castle lit up at night is something not to be missed.

  • Air conditioning usage is on a timer.
  • There are 24 steps from the garage up to the ground floor of the house.

Drive a few miles inland

and visit the many ancient stone villages that make up what is known as the “Golden Triangle”. Stop for lunch at the Restaurant L’Arc Vell in Peratallada and enjoy a meal in the confines of its peaceful walled courtyard. After lunch visit the fascinating farm museum in the tiny village of Palau Sator

Spend some time exploring the Gala Dalí Castle

in the village of Púbol, latterly the home of the painter’s wife. On display inside are the paintings and drawings that Salvador Dalí gave to Gala, along with a collection of her haute couture dresses. The garden is decorated with a series of sculptures and elephants! Open daily, from June to September, from 10.00 to 18.00, but closed on Mondays outside of these dates. Tel: (00 34) 972 488 655.

Explore the nearby medieval village of Pals,

which can be seen perched on the hillside from miles around. Wander around the old town, El Pedró. One of the main features to see is the magnificent circular Romanesque Tower, the Tower of Hours, which is all that is left of the castle that used to guard the estuary of the river Daro. From the viewpoint you can see the Medes Islands, the Montgrí and Canigó massifs and the Albera mountain ranges.

Go ride a horse!

Hipica Begur (tel 619 23 60 73) also offer night excursions, carriage rides and for those who do not wish to take to horseback, Kart Cross excursions can be taken from here.

Take a stroll beneath the arched ‘Voltes’

situated along the front of Port bo beach in Calella de Palafrugell. Enjoy a drink or evening meal at one of the seafront restaurants and watch the twinkling lights of the fishing boats out in the bay and the spectacle of the brightly lit cruise ships gliding silently across the horizon.

Drive to nearby Begur and climb up to the castle from where there are far reaching views.

The most noteworthy are those towards the Medes Islands, long ago a refuge for pirates and smugglers, although today they are famous as a marine nature reserve.

Drive across to the majestic bay of Llafranc

and then spend the day relaxing on this gorgeous beach. Perhaps rent a kayak or try snorkelling off the rocks at the side of the bay. Before returning home enjoy a cooling drink on the promenade and do some ‘people watching.’

Spend the evening in Tamariu, a favourite with local fishermen,

whose colourful artisan boats provide the perfect backdrop for the handful of excellent restaurants that adorn the picturesque seafront promenade. Evening is a truly Mediterranean experience! As dusk falls local artisans set up stalls. Jugglers, a violinist and perhaps a local artist set their pitch. Waiters start serving platters of grilled fish. All this adds to a sparkling yet relaxing evening as the mediterraneus (so named by the Romans) laps gently on the shoreline.

Drive up through the pine trees

to the 15th century hermitage and lighthouse of Sant Sebastià which sits above the delightful, majestic bay of Llafranc and enjoy the breathtaking views out across the Mediterranean.

Go for a day trip to Figueres and visit the Teatre-Museu Dalí in Figueres

and enjoy the wacky experience, which will appeal to all members of the family. It is a lot of fun and well worth braving the queues! Afterwards, pay a visit to the lesser known Museu del Joguet de Catalunya (toy museum), also in Figueres. Tel: 972 504 585

Catch the train and visit Barcelona for the day.

There is so much to see and do in this vibrant city. Take the open topped tour bus and hop on and off at the different sights. After a lunch of delicious tapas save some energy for shopping in the elegant shops.

Visit the Sunday morning Market at Palafrugell

and soak up the atmosphere with a drink in the main square. Later visit the magnificent wine store of Jordi Grau and enjoy a glass of wine with a “tapa”.

Visit the colourful Friday market in La Bisbal

and afterwards check out the numerous antique shops. La Bisbal is the centre of the ceramics industry in Catalunya and there are numerous shops selling a dazzling array of brighly coloured wares.

As you wander around Begur

take special note of the houses of the 'Indianos', the design of which has been influenced by the young people of Begur who emigrated to the Americas, mainly in search of riches. Those who returned left their stamp on the architecture of the town - one such example overlooks the small car park area near the church.

Visit the thermal baths and the new golf course at Caldes de Malavella.

The Balneario Vichy Catalan is just outside the town situated in pine grove. www.balneariovichycatalan.com. Or play a round of golf at the nearby prestigious PGA 18 hole course, which is easily accessible. Tel: 972 472 577.

Visit the fabulous city of Girona for the day,

taking in the beautifully restored Jewish Quarter, the Arab Baths, the cathedral, its museums and the many shops. Why not pay a visit to Cacao Sampaka, C/Santa Clara, 45 to indulge in the finest products using chocolate – cakes, drinks, spreads, ice creams to name a few!
