The eye catching pool, with its chequerboard mosaic pattern, creates a striking image on arrival at Labrousse. No less striking is the interior of this newly renovated property where, behind the traditional exterior stone walls, the rooms are contemporary and colourful in design.  This stylish property sits in lovely grounds, surrounded by the undulating countryside of the Lot-et-Garonne, and is less than 5 minutes from the village of Seyches which has a bakery, shop and a couple of restaurants.

Two large terraces, one covered and one open, provide space to dine and relax, perhaps after a few lengths in the pool (longer than average at 16m). Surrounding the pool and terraces are grounds laid mainly to lawn, with a children’s play area (including tree house) and a fenced paddock (home to the owner’s horse).

From the terraces, access into the house is by way of French windows, framed in black in keeping with the contemporary style.  Exposed stone walls and solid wood beams are combined with accents of black and bright colours, such as the tomato red fridge and dishwasher in the kitchen and the sunshine yellow tiles in the shower room.  At the centre of the house is the stunning black metal staircase and galleried landing, another striking feature in this smart property.

A couple of restaurants and a bakery (for the all-important baguette and croissants) can be found in the nearby village of Seyches, a 20 minute walk or under 5 minutes in the car. Beyond Seyches is an array of towns and villages to explore, including Miramont-de-Guyenne (10km), the bastides of Eymet, Issigeac and Duras, and the riverside town of Bergerac.  To the south, visit Marmande (20mins), famous throughout France for producing the most delicious tomatoes – try them and see!  There are riverside beaches both in Marmande and Tonneins, where you can also enjoy boat trips and canoeing.

  • *Pool heating is included from 18th May up to 21st September 2024 and from 17th May up to 20th September 2025. Outside of this period, there is an additional cost for pool heating, €250 per week (payable locally).

Great Things to Do Near Labrousse

Explore the Dropt Valley

Go for a drive along the Dropt Valley, starting at Duras, through Allemans du Dropt, Lauzun and finishing in Villeréal. Or visit each town on a different day – there is plenty to see and do in each one. In Allemans du Dropt, visit the church to see the 15th century frescos – they depict lively devils and gruesome goings-on!

Canoeing or kayaking

along the Dordogne is a lovely way to see the river. You paddle downstream and get a shuttle-bus back to the start. Start from Bergerac or drive a little further east to paddle the more dramatic section of the Dordogne around La Roque Gageac, Beynac and Domme.

A trip to Bergerac is a must

The old centre is a beautiful jumble of cobbled streets, timbered houses, little shops and cafés, restaurants overlooking the squares. Sit on the riverbank and watch the boats go by, or take to the water yourself - take a trip on a 'gabarre', a traditional flat-bottomed boat which was used to transport goods in days gone by.

Day at the coast

It is about a two hour drive to the 19th century seaside resorts of Arcachon or Lacanau, where you will have the choice of the ocean beaches, where the Atlantic rollers are great for surf sports, or the more sheltered beaches of the lakes and lagoons set just inland, or thirdly the tidal beaches of the Bay of Arcachon.

Holiday tournaments!

Challenge your companions to friendly table tennis or table football competitions.

Market day

Don't miss all the great food markets in the area. The nearest town, Miramont-de-Guyenne, holds its weekly market on a Monday.  Others include Castillonnès on a Tuesday, Bergerac and Tonneins on Wednesday and Saturday, Eymet on a Thursday, Marmande on a Saturday.

Châteaux

There are numerous châteaux to visit in this region, but a must-see is Monbazillac château (38km) with its fine collection of 17th century furniture, and also vineyards and a museum of wine. Also don’t miss the Château de Bridoire (34km), where the kitchen and other rooms have been refurbished and can be explored. There is a large games room in the stables and outside with lots of traditional games to play, including giant chess and archery.

Tomatoes of Marmande

are famous throughout France for their flavour.  Originally from Italy, there are 3 varieties of the Marmande tomato - Cotelées, Cornues, and Coeurs, and they are only grown in this area. Featured on every menu in the area, you can also try it in tomato juice, sauce, jam, dried and vinegar.

Riverside beaches

Spend the day by the river - take your pick from the Dordogne, the Garonne and the Lot, all within an easy drive from Labrousse.

Visit Duras

This small town has interesting little streets, good shops and sunny café terraces plus an impressive château. Built in the 14th century as a fortress originally, it was later transformed into a stately home at the end of the 16th century. The view from the tower over the Dropt valley is splendid and they have special evening events in high summer with music, food and night walks.

Garden lovers

will enjoy the fabulous collection of waterlilies at La Tour-Marliac in Le Temple-sur-Lot (30min drive).

A spa day

For some pampering and relaxation, visit Les Bains de Casteljaloux (40km) where you will find thermal spas, massages, Japanese baths, and both indoor & outdoor pools.  For an upmarket spa day, visit Les Sources de Caudalie, near Bordeaux, approx 1hr 30min drive.
