Maison Carcavi

Dating back to 1866, this impressive stone building, with its half-timbered façade, terracotta pantile roof and beautiful parkland setting, has been transformed into a welcoming countryside retreat. It is easy to imagine waking up to the magnificent views over the vines, relaxing by the pool and dining alfresco in the pretty courtyard, perhaps venturing out to nearby Albas (15 minute drive), a gorgeous riverside town, or the village of Sauzet (10 minutes) to pick up the morning croissants.  

As you enter the courtyard, Maison Carcavi is the pretty section of building directly ahead. Vines form a canopy over the entrance and it is only when you step inside do you realise how spacious the accommodation is - the ground floor is one large room with dining, living and kitchen zones, beautifully furnished with comfy sofas, a neutral colour palette accentuated with warm tones of red. Windows frame the views over the vineyards, whilst the large kitchen window shows the upper lawn and a glimpse of the extraordinary hedge that can only be described as immense. The bedrooms are equally comfortable, with the same magnificent vistas.

Outside, space is the defining feature: an expanse of parkland to explore, an array of trees to relax under and a large pool in which to swim. Ideal for children, adults too will appreciate the idyllic setting where long alfresco lunches under the shade of the trees will become a daily occurrence.

The neat rows of vines surrounding Maison Carcavi produce excellent local wines, many of which can be enjoyed in the local restaurants (Sauzet, Albas, and Prayssac). The magnificent River Lot, winding its way to the sea, provides plenty of activities: wild swimming, fishing, canoeing and scenic boat trips. And before you leave, be sure to visit the viewpoint above Albas, where sweeping panoramic views over the Lot valley capture the timeless beauty of the area - and explain why so many visitors return year after year.
