Traditional, substantial and full of character, the house sits within a large plot where indoor and outdoor living flow effortlessly together. Terracotta-tiled floors, exposed beams, and green shutters and window frames give the interiors an unmistakably Cretan feel, while spacious terraces and shaded outdoor areas make the most of the extraordinary surroundings. From here, there are far-reaching views towards the mountains in one direction and the sea in the other.
Life at The Village House is made for lingering outdoors. Steps lead down to the lower terrace, where the generous private swimming pool invites you to cool off while enjoying the scenery across the hillside. The upper terrace, meanwhile, is made for long, leisurely meals. With an outdoor kitchen and wood-fired pizza oven, it is the perfect place to gather with family, pour a glass of something cold and watch the sun disappear behind the hills. While spending time with your family and firends within the large plot, you can enjoy the well tended garden, boasting a varietiy of shade trees, plus the unique large traditional grape arbour.
Inside, the generous open-plan kitchen, dining and living area provides plenty of space to come together, while quieter corners offer peaceful spots for reading, relaxing or simply taking in the view. Upstairs, two of the bedrooms open onto a long, expansive balcony, while the attic room, reached by open-tread stairs, provides a calm retreat for those seeking a little extra privacy.
The setting offers an unusually close connection to local life. Just a few hundred metres away stands the famous ancient olive tree of Vouves, considered one of the oldest olive trees on Crete and still bearing its distinctive fruit. Beside it, a small olive oil museum offers an insight into the islands enduring olive-growing tradition, while a welcoming family-run taverna serves local food in a relaxed, informal setting.
A twelve-minute drive away, Tavronitis is a welcoming village with traditional restaurants, shops and everyday amenities. For a wider choice of eateries, amenities and activities, the coastal resorts of Agia Marina, Maleme and Platanias are all within a short drive.
