Tucked away in Ronda’s wonderfully atmospheric Barrio de Padre Jesús, an ancient quarter of cobbled, higgledy-piggledy streets and timeworn charm, Casa del Cerrillo is a traditional town house that welcomes you into the heart of authentic Andalucía.

Inside, the house unfolds over several levels, each revealing another inviting corner. The spacious, light-filled living room opens onto the upper terrace, where the views are particularly captivating. From here, the rooftops stretch out before you, with the old town and landmarks such as the Iglesia Mayor and Casa Rey Moro to one side, the newer part of Ronda to the other, and rolling hills stretching towards the Sierra beyond.

Downstairs, the bedroom opens onto a pretty terrace of its own, with steps leading further down to the pool. Alongside the house, and also accessed from the bedroom, the barbecue area has an unmistakably Andalucían ambience, with traditional stone paving, terracotta pots, mature planting, fruit trees and a charming fountain. Exposed old brick walls add to the sense that this is a home steeped in character.

The pool is a particularly eye-catching feature, its bright yellow, orange and blue tiles bringing a cheerful splash of colour to the lower terrace. After a day spent wandering the town’s winding streets, crossing its stunning gorge or lingering over lunch in a sunny square, it is the perfect place to cool off.

And then there is the simple pleasure of being so centrally placed. Barrio de Padre Jesús is a joy to explore on foot. Yet despite its laid-back, old-world feel, you are only 300m from the lively Plaza del Socorro, lined with restaurants and cafés, as well as the buzz of the main shopping streets. A car is not required, but if you do bring one, parking is available in one of the town’s nearby nearby public car parks from where it is just a 10 minute walk to the house.

With its inviting outdoor spaces, pretty pool, established plants and far-reaching views, Casa del Cerrillo captures something wonderfully authentic about Ronda: a characterful home where historic streets, mountain scenery and slow summer days are all right on the doorstep.
