When relaxing by the poolside, looking out across olive groves and cork oaks towards the delightful cluster of pretty stone cottages that form the rural village of Regencós, one is immediately transported back in time, to an era when life’s concerns revolved around simpler things; working in the vineyard, harvesting olives, leading the goats to pasture and of course, with the Mediterranean so close by, bringing in the daily catch from the nearby fishing villages.

Lovingly restored by its proud owners, Irina permits guests to savour the ambiance and pleasures of a centuries old rural/coastal farmhouse.  Discreetly attached at the rear to sister property, Aldea Repos, it is in an idyllic setting with manicured lawns, abundant bougainvillea and a superb swimming pool.

You are welcomed, via an atmospheric outdoor covered dining terrace which boasts a traditional battened clay tiled ceiling, into a timber beamed living/dining room. To the right a spacious country kitchen, again with beamed ceiling, continues the rustic atmosphere whilst the colourful ceramics that set off the en suite bath and shower rooms enjoyed by all the bedrooms complete the overall effect.

With such expansive views of the surrounding countryside and distant mountains spreading out ahead, it is easy to forget the fishing villages that played such an important part in the lives of those who lived here in bygone times. Nearby Sa Tuna (6.5km), Sa Riera (5.5km), Aigua Blava (6.5km) and Tamariu (9.5km) are charming coastal enclaves offering delightful sandy coves, beaches and a number of excellent fish restaurants. These still retain their old world charm thanks to the local fishermen who continue to catch squid, sea bass and lobster. For shopping, both Palafrugell (4km) and Begur (3km) are just a short drive away and have all amenities.

Great Things to Do Near Irina

Drive to nearby Begur

and climb up to the castle from where there are far reaching views. The most noteworthy are those towards the Medes Islands, long ago a refuge for pirates and smugglers, although today they are famous as a marine nature reserve.

As you wander around Begur

take special note of the houses of the 'Indianos', the design of which has been influenced by the young people of Begur who emigrated to the Americas, mainly in search of riches. Those who returned left their stamp on the architecture of the town - one such example overlooks the small car park area near the church.

Make the short drive to the well known wine warehouse of Jordi Grau,

where you can browse amongst a mind blowing selection of wines, from the very simplest local wine through to the rarest vintages. There is something here to suit all tastes and pockets. Refresh yourself with a drink and a 'tapa' in the bar at the back of the store.

Stroll the few hundred metres to the church and square

in the delightful hamlet of Regencós which retains the old world charm of a traditional Catalan village where local farmers still work the land and make their living tending their vines, olives etc.

The golden sandy beach of Aigua Blava

is a very short drive away. Justifiably awarded a coveted Blue Flag, this beach boasts the finest and softest sand in the immediate area. Relax in the restaurant overlooking the bay and enjoy the freshest of grilled fish, accompanied by a glass of chilled white wine.

The protected Marine Reserve of Ses Negres

The entrance fee includes a glass of cava and, weather permitting, an audiovisual show in one of the inner terraces. After your visit enjoy a nightcap at one of the many outdoor bars and soak up the atmosphere of Figueres, which comes alive at night as the locals congregate to exchange news with each other in the warm summer air.
