Great Things to Do Near Villa Jimena

The golden sandy beach at Aigua Blava

is a very short drive away. Justifiably awarded a coveted Blue Flag, this beach boasts the finest and softest sand in the immediate area. Relax in one of the restaurants overlooking the bay and enjoy the freshest of grilled fish, accompanied by a glass of chilled white wine.

Stroll over to Llafranc’s seafront...

and meander along the promenade to the marina to gaze at the boats. Before heading back, stop and enjoy a leisurely drink whilst engaging in a spot of people watching.

Take the ‘Cami de Ronda’ footpath

that leads from Tamariu to Llafranc along the coast and over the headland to neighbouring Calella de Palafrugell. It is well signed and will even give you an idea of how long it takes to walk it! If you don’t want to walk back, catch the little tourist bus which will take you up to the lighthouse from where you will enjoy breath taking views down the coast.

Drive to the centre of Begur and climb up to the castle

from where there are far reaching views. The most noteworthy are those towards the Medes Islands, long ago a refuge for pirates and smugglers, although today they are famous as a marine nature reserve.

Take a stroll down from the house

to the unspoilt fishing village of Tamariu and enjoy an evening meal in one of the fine seafront fish restaurants. Evening is a truly Mediterranean experience! As dusk falls local artisans set up stalls and perhaps a local artist will set up their pitch. Waiters start serving platters of grilled fish, while the Mediterranean laps gently on the shoreline.

Visit the Sunday morning Market at Palafrugell

and soak up the atmosphere with a drink in the main square. Later visit the magnificent wine store and enjoy a glass of wine with a tapa.

Wander around the cobbled back streets of Palamós

and visit the numerous “Tapas” bars. Or perhaps take a guided tour on foot and by sea following the footsteps of the Turkish Pirate “Barbarosa” who ransacked the town of Palamós in 1543.

The Medes Islands

These Islands and their marine life, just a mile off the coast, are in a protected Marine Natural park and are one of the most important in the whole of the Mediterranean. Divers come here from all over the world, as they are considered to be such an important site.

Visit the spectacular Greek and Roman settlement of Empuries.

Enjoy a lunch of fresh anchovies in L'Escala, as they are a local speciality. On the way back climb up to the Castle of Montgri (Torroella de Montgri) and take in the spectacular views of both the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean.

Visit the fabulous city of Girona for the day,

taking in the beautifully restored Jewish Quarter, the Arab Baths, the cathedral, its museums and the many shops.

Walk amongst all kinds of exotic Mediterranean flora at the Botanical Gardens

where you get magnificent panoramic views of the coastline that stretches from Calella to the cliffs of Cap Roig.

Drive a few miles inland

and visit the many ancient stone villages that make up what is known as the “Golden Triangle”. Stop for lunch in Peratallada and enjoy a meal in the confines of a peaceful walled courtyard.

A great day out.

Pack a pic-nic and visit nearby Banyoles, which has the largest natural lake in Catalunya. Here you can swim, fish or go on a boat trip around the lake itself.

Visit the pre-Roman Iberian settlement on the headland to the left of the El Castell beach.

Walk among ancient stone walls and enjoy the spectacular views out to the Isles Formigues, where bottle nosed dolphins have often been spotted feeding.

The experience of the so called ‘Dalinian Triangle’ for lovers of art and culture is a ‘must’.

The three places to visit are his home in Cadaqués (pre-booking necessary), the Teatre-Museu in Figueres and the Gala-Dalí Castle in Pubol. This will be a long day excursion but very informative and entertaining!

Take a day out and visit Besalú

which is the provincial capital of the Garrotxa and has some beautifully restored buildings as well as the famous Romanesque bridge, which was built in the 12th Century but restored in 1965.

Drive up into the nearby Gavarres mountain range

and visit the ancient stone burial site “Cova d’en Daina”. Stop for lunch at the medieval stone hamlet of Romanya de la Selva.

Catch the train and visit Barcelona for the day.

There is so much to see and do in this vibrant city. Take the open topped tour bus and hop on and off at the different sights. After a lunch of delicious tapas save some energy for shopping in the elegant shops.

Relax at the villa and try your hand at preparing your own tapas
