Banyalbufar

About Banyalbufar

Wine tasting

The name Banyalbufar is of Arabic origin and means ’vineyard by the sea’, as in the past this area was essentially one large vineyard. The local Malvasier grape was very famous, and efforts are being made to revive this variety after a virus caused an end to its cultivation in the mid 20th century. The Celler Son Vives is a small bodega on the edge of the village, offering outdoor tastings of the Malvasian wine. You can see the typical terraced hillsides descending down to the sea.

Points of interest

The church of La Nativitat de Santa Maria, with one of the most valuable Baroque organs in the world, is definitely worth a visit.

A little way along the coast road, heading towards Estellencs, there is a wonderful viewpoint where a partially ruined watchtower known as the Torre de ses Animes or the Torre del Verger, perches on the cliff looking out to sea.

Beaches

There are no sandy beaches nearby, but there are some tranquil coves and pebbled beaches down the steep hillside, like Cala Banyalbufar, Es Port des Canonge or Son Bunyola.

Festitivies

The first week in September the village celebrates their patron saint and the local festivities will entertain the whole family.
