La Cartuja in the town of Valldemossa was once a royal residence and home to the renowned composer Frederic Chopin in 1838-39. Daily recitals of Chopin’s work are held at La Cartuja. The town is well known for its history and scenery and makes for enjoyable walks around the beautiful town.
The Port of Valldemossa (8km) has a pebble shoreline and two waterside cafes while Cala Deià (12km) has a sandy beach along with a beachside restaurant. Close by is the pretty mountain town of Soller, its town square surrounded by cafes spreading out into interesting narrow streets and Port de Soller offers a fine sandy beach with plenty of amenities. Deia shares in Soller’s old world atmosphere making both towns a worthwhile experience.
Palma is just 18km away or drive 10 minutes to the University car park and then it’s just 15 minutes from the centre of the capital on the Metro service and no parking hassles. Palma is a bustling port of tree lined boulevards, boasting a range of great shopping and an exclusive yacht club. Watch glass blowing at Lafiore on the road from Palma to Valldemossa in the village of S’Esgleieta or visit the winery in Santa Maria, just under 30 minutes’ drive away.
Mallorca is home to a good number of Michelin rated restaurants, check online for the current listing and treat yourself to a special meal. For fresh produce for your villa, the market here is on a Sunday morning and is full of locally grown fruit and vegetables.
