Art in Gordes
From April to September, art exhibitions are held in three venues in Gordes, displaying paintings, photographs and sculpture. The Château also plays host to exhibitions during the year, and is a permanent home to a museum about Pol Mara, a contemporary Flemish painter and a resident of Gordes.
Pampering
Treat yourself to a massage or a beauty treatment at the spa and well-being centre within the Hotel des Bories in Gordes. Book a treatment or just enjoy a relaxing day using the sauna, hammam, gym and herbal tearoom.
Exploring the past
An interesting site just outside of Gordes is the unique ‘Village des Bories’, a restored settlement of 30 dry stone huts, originally shelters for shepherds but later used as dwellings.
Also near to Gordes, on a 3 hectare estate near St Pantaléon, the Moulin des Bouillons is an extremely well preserved 16th century olive press, where visitors can learn how oil and soap were produced from olives. On the same site, there is a museum telling the story of glass-making from its very beginnings to the present day, from beads to stained glass windows, to modern scientific use.
Sénanque Abbey
Not far from Gordes, the magnificent Abbaye de Sénanque should not be missed. A stone monastery dating from the 12th century, since then it has been home almost continually to Cistercian monks, who cultivate the lavender and produce honey.
