Platanias Beach
Platanias beach is a lovely long sandy beach with has all the usual tourist facilities and just around 6km from Patelari Platanias. You will find water sports, lifeguards, showers, umbrellas and snack bars.
Cretan Brewery
Take a stroll around the facilities at Crete’s only brewery, just approximately 20 minutes away at Zounaki, Chania. Sample the handcrafted beers on the spacious balcony surrounded by olive groves. Take the tour and learn how the beer is made by one of the knowledgeable English speaking tour guides before trying some of the authentic Greek cuisine also on offer.
Take a Boat Trip
From Platanias harbour you can take a short boat trip around nearby Theodorou Island and swim in the lovely clear waters. The boat’s knowledgeable crew will tell you about the local sea life or you could try the snorkelling experience.
Platanias War Shelter
A WWII museum focused on the historical events of the battle of Crete, featuring lots of tunnels built beneath the church, weaponry, uniforms, maps and more. The shelter is not a long walk from Platanias town and is well worth a visit to learn about some of Crete’s more recent history.
Agia Lake
A small but lovely lake with a backdrop of mountains, parking is easy and has a boardwalk around two-thirds of this man-made lake which is now a nature reserve. Depending on the time of year an assortment of wildlife and birds can be spotted. There are benches around the lake where you can sit and relax and perhaps capture the images of some visiting birds with your camera.
