About Carvoeiro

Cliff Top Trail

Enjoy invigorating walks along the spectacular cliff top trail taking in stunning seascapes and wildlife. Carvoeiro has one of the most beautiful beaches of the region surrounded by spectacular sandy, steep sandstone cliffs. Heading east from the town there is a wooden boardwalk that leads from close to Carvoeiro to the 'Algar Seco' rocks. It's a short walk (520m) along an elevated wooden walkway, which skirts the top of the cliffs and offers wonderful views. The rocks are a series of fascinating cliff formations that have been carved out of the limestone. There is a cave called the “A Boneca” (the doll) and a passage that leads to a small chamber and two iconic arches looking out over the ocean.

Praia da Marinha

Voted as one of the most beautiful beaches in Portugal, a visit to this fabulous beach of soft golden sands fringed with colourful cliff sides is a must-do on holiday. From Carvoeiro it's a 15 minute drive, and the best time to visit is probably out of peak hours either early morning or early evening, when parking is easier and the sun not so intense.

Used frequently to advertise the Algarve coastline, there are iconic views from the surrounding cliff tops and a long stairway down to the beach itself. Once there, the sand is soft and the sea is blue. Take a stroll along the beach to the 'M' rock, bring your snorkel to view the marine life or have a light bite at the small beach restaurant.

Restaurants

The pretty cove beach at Carvoeiro is home to an eclectic mix of eateries to entice all tastes, ranging from traditional Portuguese to modern fusion and much more. The town has a very good selection of over 150 restaurants from fine dining, such as the Michelin starred 'Bon Bon', to simple local seafood cafés offering a more budget-conscious alternative.
