The Castle
Although small, the castle in Póvoa de Lanhoso was important in the formation of the Kingdom of Portugal. It is built on top of a granite rock and the views from there are impressive.
Vinho Verde
Close to Povoa de Lanhoso are two Quintas where the tasty local Vinho Verde is produced. Quinta Villa Beatriz is a large Brazilian style farm house in a shade of blue, with lovely gardens and some animals for children to enjoy. Quinta do Minho farmhouse dates back to the 19th century. Both offer free tastings and the wine is on sale at the farms’ shops.
Nearby
Caldas do Geres is a spa town in the central area of the National Park of Peneda-Geres. An interesting town in itself, it leads to the heart of the National Park which has a diverse landscape and wildlife. There are birds such as raptors, eagles and kites as well as boar, otters, polecats and badgers amongst others. Some plant species are found nowhere else but here. A variety of trees line the river banks and you will sometimes come across a beautiful waterfall along the way.
