Beaches
El Portitxol, Platja del Convent and Platja del Moll Grec are three excellent beaches nearby. All have fine sand and shallow waters, making them great for kids.
Village restaurants
There are a handful of restaurants in the village offering local cuisine all with outdoor terraces. In the nearby stone hamlet of Cinc Claus the renowned Restaurant ‘Mas Concas’ offers a varied à la carte menu along with a menu of the day. Once a 17th-century farmhouse and home to a famous Catalan author, it is well worth a visit.
Fiesta Major
The Grand Fiesta ‘Festa Major’ in nearby L’Escala takes place during the first week of September. Dancing, music, street markets and fireworks are just a few of the organised events.
Greco-Roman city
No holiday in this area would be complete without a visit to the magnificent ruins of the Greco-Roman city of Empùries. Originally a Greek trading post and then the gateway to Spain for the Roman Empire, this site offers some excellent examples of mosaics, sculptures and artefacts in a unique seafront location.
Flamingos & Storks
Visit the ‘Parc Natural dels Aiguamolls de L’Empordà’ and follow the walking routes supplied at the visitor centre. Many species of birds are to be seen including flamingos. Binoculars can be rented at the information centre.
Wine Museum
This is wine-growing country and a visit to the Wine Museum in Perelada to see how cava is produced is a fascinating experience not to be missed.
