A cheery bright yellow facade greets you on arrival at Casa Alice, a perfectly formed two bedroom villa with pool, situated on the edge of Sisan (750m), a traditional village with restaurants and shop, at the southern end of Istria. With amenities on the doorstep, sea and beaches nearby (4km) and history and culture a short drive away in Pula (8km), Casa Alice is the ideal place for a couple or family seeking a holiday where everything is close at hand.

Thoughtfully designed and built by the owner, this bijou villa has two bedrooms, each with their own shower room (one en suite), and to the front a lovely, light, open plan space with zones for relaxing, dining and cooking. Full width patio doors slide open so the indoor merges with the terrace, with wide steps leading down to the pool area.

And when you fancy a change from being poolside, the nearest beach (Kala-Cala) is a 10 minute drive.  Here you will find a shingle beach, shallow crystal clear waters, and a beach café during the summer. All along the picturesque coastline, you will discover cycle/walking paths, tiny coves, waterfront rock platforms (ideal for sunbathing), the fishing harbour of Liznjan, and further west, the marina and sandy beaches of Medulin, and stunning views across the bay to the islands of Cres and Losinj (boat trips available). And for a change of scenery, a 15 minute drive brings you into Pula, home to one of the world’s best preserved Roman amphitheatres, a sight well worth visiting.

  • The twin/double bedroom can be prepared as either. Please advise at the time of booking.

Location of Casa Alice

Locality

Great Things to Do Near Casa Alice

Your local village

It is approx 750m to the main square of Sisan (please note that there are no pavements on the road into the village). This lovely village has a couple of restaurants, a cafe, minimarket, local wine tasting  - everything you need on your doorstep. There is also a bike hire shop in the village - why not hire a bike for a couple of days and explore the area on two wheels?

Your local beaches

Take the car, cycle or walk to the nearest beach - it's approx 4km away.  First contact with the sea is a rocky shoreline, with rockpools and rock platforms for sunbathing (and beautiful crystal clear waters).  Continue along and you will reach the little shingle beach of Kala-Cala - shallow waters and a beach cafe during the summer.  Head in the opposite direction, following the coastal path, and you reach Mala Draga.  Bura-Bora beach (Liznjan) is bigger and has more facilities (sports/diving places, beach bar, toilets) so a great place to go if you want to kayak, SUP, dive....

Night Skies and Stargazing

Visit the Višnjan Observatory. The original observatory can be found in the town itself, whilst the new observatory is just three kilometers north of Višnjan, on Tičan hill. More than 100 minor planets, two comets and over 1700 asteroids have been discovered here. During the summer months (July, August, September) the public can take part in Astro Nights (English speaking), two hours of observations, children's workshops and a tour of the new observatory.

Roman ruins on the Vizula Peninsula

Just on the edge of Medulin, the tree-clad Vizula Peninsula park is home to archaeological remains that range from the Neolithic to Late Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages. Follow the 2km path around the park and discover (with the aid of multimedia) the remains of a Roman villa, the quay and warehouses, and the stories and history of this magnificent place.

Oysters and Mussels in the Limski Kanal

Pay a visit to the Lim Fjord, a spectacular protected landscape and special marine reserve situated between Rovinj and Vrsar. This long, narrow inlet is bordered by wooded, canyon-like cliffs rising up to 150m above sea level. It is said that one flank of this canal is populated by deciduous trees, the other by evergreens. A couple of restaurants are situated on the water front.
Platforms in the fjord betray the farming of oysters, mussels and fish such as bream and sea bass, encouraged by underwater freshwater springs which render the water partially brackish.

Further Afield...in Croatia, Slovenia and Italy

For something a bit different, spend the day further afield in Croatia, or another country (Slovenia or Italy).  It's a 3hr drive to the Plitvice Lakes National Park, where 16 lakes are connected by cascades and waterfalls.  Absolutely stunning, it's easy to see why it is a UNESCO natural World Heritage site. Or visit another UNESCO spot, Venice: a 40min drive to Porec and then the ferry across to Venice. Or closer to home, enjoy a scenic 1hr 15min drive into Slovenia to Piran, a gorgeous medieval town on the coast.

Take a Trip to the Brijuni Islands

Once Tito’s holiday home and the meeting place for the international jet set, this collection of islands is now open to visitors. Principal of the 14 islands, Veliki Brijuni, is the one to visit because of the diversity of its interests: see wildlife including deer and peacocks roam wild in beautiful natural parkland; Roman ruins; a safari park; beaches and traces of dinosaur footprints! You need to allow at least half a day for this excursion which involves taking a ferry from Fažana.  Take a picnic with you or enjoy a meal in one of the island’s cafes.

Stars, candles and lanterns in Fazana

Fazana's festival of lights takes place on the 26th July, when the waterfront, streets and fishing boats are lit up by candles, lights and lanterns.  Stroll through the streets and take in the sights, to the backdrop of music provided street musicians and groups.

Concerts in Pula's Arena

Pula's amphitheatre is the stunning setting for many concerts during the summer. The amphitheatre dates back  to the 1st Century AD when people watched gladiators in battle. In more modern times, it is now the place where people watch world famous artists in concert. Previous artists have included Elton John, Andrea Bocelli, Sting...    An amazing venue and only a 15min drive from Casa Alice.

Seeing the area on two wheels

Hire bikes from the shop in the village and head out to explore the area. Cycle routes are well signposted and the local tourist office will have maps and info (as well a website dedicated to bike trails). Explore the little villages and the coastline. Stop for a dip in the sea or at a local cafe.
