Location of Anelia

Locality

Great Things to Do Near Anelia

Hike up to the Monastery of Themata

Located on the slopes of the Agia Dinati mountain, this is one of the oldest sites in Kefalonia. The hiking path is surrounded by pine forest and offers amazing views across the sea and towards Ithaca.

Snorkelling

The Ionian Sea is one of the cleanest in Europe so get your snorkel and fins ready and head down to the coast.

Visit Sami's Nautical Museum

The biggest and most historical port in Kefalonia, this museum was opened in 2019 to show Sami's rich naval tradition. There are exhibits of all types of traditional Greek shipbuilding and vessels, and even a 4 metre replica of the Titanic.

Take a boat trip to Ithaca

From local harbours there are various companies offering day trips to the mystical island of Ithaca just across the water. Excursions often stop off at beaches only accessible by boat and the island's capital Vathy.

Turtle rescue fund

The Kefalonia locals are extremely proud of the fact that the 'caretta caretta' turtles continue to use the lovely beaches in the south of the island to nest their eggs. As one would hope and expect, these beaches are protected and supervised to ensure that the eggs are not disturbed by the invasion of sun umbrellas and beach barbecues. One of these unspoilt beaches is Mounda Beach.

Take a boat ride across Melissani Lake

Just 6km from the villa, this fascinating lake and cave is one of the most beautiful sites in Kefalonia. When the sunlight enters through the cave's roof the colour of the water is deep blue and as the sun rises becomes bright turquoise. You can even see the bottom which is 30m deep. You cannot swim in the lake but you are taken across it on a boat.

Visit the local winery

Robola is a white wine grape variety which is primarily grown on Kefalonia. Learn about the winemaking process by visiting the vineyards and wineries as part of a small group or a private tour. Tastings included.

Visit the famous Drogarati Cave

Just a few kilometres from the villa and open only since 1963, this cave is accessed by climbing down 60m of steps, the cave itself is 65m x 45m and keeps very cool even in the hottest months. It is full of stalactites and stalagmites of different colours and is said to have been formed over 100 millions years ago!

Head to Fiscardo in the north of the island

Fiscardo has something for everyone - Roman ruins, a pretty harbour, great tavernas, excellent boutiques and delightful bays for an afternoon swim.

Experience the adventurous journey of Odysseus

Visit the Odysseus Theme Park based on Homer's unique epic, The Odyssey. Meet the monstrous Cyclops Polyphemus, see up close the sorceress Circe, the enchanted Sirens and the sea monsters Scylla and Charybdis.

Antisamos - What a beach!

A great beach, less han 10k away, used as a backdrop for much of the Captain Corelli movie. A sweeping white pebbly bay, great for snorkelling. Chilled out beach bars on hand to offer bar service to your sun lounger!
