The main entrance to the house is on street level where the private parking is located. In this room, guests will notice a unique decorative addition from the owner, a used competition road bike from the 1972 Munich Olympics, a charming and unexpected detail. The living area opens on to a generous terrace furnished for al fresco dining, the perfect spot for slow breakfasts or relaxed evenings whilst enjoying the landscape of olive groves and sea views. The contemporary kitchen is well-equipped and includes a breakfast bar. A double bedroom completes this level, with an en suite shower room and doors leading both to a private balcony boasting sea and mountain views, and to the exterior dining terrace.

Internal stairs lead down to two further double bedrooms, each with its own en suite shower room and direct access to a comfortable covered seating area and inviting pool terrace. This area can also be accessed via external steps from the parking area.

Makryotika offers a taste of authentic Greek village life, with two friendly tavernas and a local butcher within walking distance. Further dining options, a supermarket and a popular bakery can be found within just a few minutes drive. Down on the coast Agia Efimia (4.8km) is a charming harbour village offering a wide choice of amenities including seaside tavernas, cafés, supermarkets, bakeries, boat-hire, diving, and several small coves ideal for a quick swim or snorkel. It’s an easy and rewarding place to spend time, whether for a relaxed evening meal or simply to watch the boats drift in and out of the bay.

The central location of Kanelo Villa means some of Kefalonia’s most treasured beaches can be reached within a short car journey, these include the well-known Myrtos Beach (6km), Agia Paraskevi (9km) and Foki Beach (25km) in the Fiscardo region, which is also worth a day trip to explore the beautiful harbour on the island’s northern tip.

A little closer to home, Assos (13km) is a must. This picturesque peninsula village, with its dramatic Venetian fortress and pastel waterfront houses, is one of the island’s most photographed spots, perfect for a leisurely stroll, a scenic lunch, or a sunset drink by the water.

Great Things to Do Near Kanelo Villa

Go diving in the Ionian Sea

Scuba diving clubs in Agia Efimia offer experiences for beginners and experienced divers.

A day at the beach

Myrtos Beach is easily accessible from the villa (via car or private boat) and is probably the most popular beach on the island. It has striking blue water and iconic cliffs. It was used to film scenes from Captain Corelli's Mandolin.

Visit the famous Drogarati Cave

Open only since 1963, this cave is accessed by climbing down 60m of steps, the cave itself is 65m x 45m and keeps very cool even in the hottest months. It is full of stalactites and stalagmites of different colours and is said to have been formed over 100 millions years ago!

Sample the Greek cuisine

Agia Efimia is one of the best places to sample traditional Greek dishes in one of the several family run restaurants and tavernas.

Zax - a - ro- pla - stio ( pastry shop in other words!)

Visit any Zaxaroplastio for a sweet pastry! This complicated word denotes popular pastry shops that have a large array of tiny, sticky, confections, using filo pastry, nuts, honey, figs and raisins, some cakes ooze chocolate - – naughty but nice….

Visit Sami's Nautical Museum

The biggest and most historical port in Kefalonia, this museum was opened in 2019 to show Sami's rich naval tradition. There are exhibits of all types of traditional Greek shipbuilding and vessels, and even a 4 metre replica of the Titanic.

Head to Fiscardo in the north of the island

Fiscardo has something for everyone - Roman ruins, a pretty harbour, great tavernas, excellent boutiques and delightful bays for an afternoon swim.

Take a boat ride across Melissani Lake

This fascinating lake and cave is one of the most beautiful sites in Kefalonia. When the sunlight enters through the cave's roof the colour of the water is deep blue and as the sun rises becomes bright turquoise. You can even see the bottom which is 30m deep. You cannot swim in the lake but you are taken across it on a boat.

Take a boat trip to Ithaca

In the harbour of Agia Efimia there are various companies offering day trips to the mystical island of Ithaca just across the water. Excursions often stop off at beaches only accessible by boat and the island's capital Vathy.

Hike up to the Monastery of Themata

Located on the slopes of the Agia Dinati mountain, just 9km from Agia Efimia, this is one of the oldest sites in Kefalonia. The hiking path is surrounded by pine forest and offers amazing views across the sea and towards Ithaca.
