Villa Octavius is an exclusive retreat nestled in the lush hills 1.5km above the popular and picturesque harbour town of Nydri. It offers splendid views across the Ionian Sea and neighbouring islands and combines a unique contemporary design with traditional Greek charm.

Octavius was inspired by the Emperor Octavian, who defeated Anthony and Cleopatra in the Battle of Actium in 31 BC at nearby Preveza. To reflect Octavian's dominions, renowned interior designer Miranda Holland-Cooper decorated the villa with rare fabrics, treasures and antiques from Britain, Europe, Egypt, India and China.

The main house is accessed via steps from the private parking area and consists of a spacious octagonal living room, a fully equipped kitchen with breakfast bar and dining area and 4 en suite bedrooms. A lower ground floor apartment, designed and furnished using the same flare as the rest of the property, can be accessed externally or via an internal staircase, and offers further accommodation for an extra couple of guests.

The villa also offers wonderful outdoor space, with a variety of comfortable areas to relax and enjoy al fresco dining whilst admiring the landscaped gardens of flowers and herbs. The ample terrace, complete with in-built barbecue, boasts panoramic views across the turquoise Ionian sea and the islands of Skorpios and Meganisi. Tucked away for added privacy is the Jacuzzi garden with a private heated spa bath, additional seating area and unrivalled views across the olive tree valley below and the fragrant pines on the mountains above.

A distinctive Moroccan style tower, complete with hammocks, makes for an ideal chill-out area and the perfect place to escape to read, relax, listen to music or enjoy that all-important siesta. It has open 360° views of sea, mountains and sky, allowing guests to stargaze or enjoy the views of the twinkling lights of the harbour and boats each evening.

A short walk (500m) down the lane will lead you to a popular local taverna which offers a great choice of Greek cuisine. All amenities including waterside tavernas, exciting aquatic sport activities and ferries to other islands, can be found in Nydri itself, which is a 5 minute drive or a 30 minute downhill walk for the more adventurous.

Great Things to Do Near Octavius

Visit the Archaeological Museum in Lefkada Town

Located on the outskirts of the old town, Lefkada’s Archaeological Museum has four rooms exhibiting historic artefacts from the island such as tools, weaponry and traditional costumes. Visitors can also learn about customs and culture on the island from Palaeolithic times till the late Roman years. Spend a couple of hours learning about the history of Lefkada and then head around the bay for a coffee on the sea front overlooking the lagoon.

Island of Skorpios

Take a boat day trip and sail around the famous island of Skorpios, once home to Aristotle Onassis and where he and his family are buried.

Try the local dishes...

Choose local and traditional dishes and sample the produce grown on the island. Seek out some deep fried feta cheese drizzled with honey as a starter, or try fresh tzatziki with fresh bread as a mid-afternoon snack.

Bird watching at the Lefkada Lagoons

The two lagoons that border Lefkada Town’s northern coastline, Divari and Ivaria, are an incredible habitat for many varieties of flora and fauna. The abundance of long light rushes and grasses provide the perfect shelter for many birds throughout the year, whilst some migratory breeds only arrive during the warm summer months. One special visitor are the pink flamingos, which use the waters for feeding between May and August while the weather is at its warmest. Other breeds you may spot at these sea lakes are cormorants, herons, swans and white egrets.

Spend a day on Ithaca...

The second smallest of all the islands in the Ionian Sea (after Paxos) is well known around the world from Homer's epic poems 'The Iliad' and 'The Odyssey' and his central hero Ulysses. You can catch the ferry from Nydri just down the hill, or Vasiliki in the south of the island, it takes around an hour - spend the whole day exploring this historic island full of tradition, legend and myth!

Spend the day in Meganisi

Catch the public ferry (30 mins) from Nydri to Meganisi and enjoy a relaxing day on this beautiful island. Sample a traditional lunch in the port of Vathy, wander around the village of Spartochori, or rent a rib boat and visit secret coves, go snorkelling and swimming in the turquoise waters.

Nydri waterfalls

Nestled into the hills and forests, just 1.5km above the villa, the Dimosari waterfalls are a haven of beauty and tranquillity. Put on your most comfortable shoes and spend the morning walking around and exploring this impressive landscape. The waterfalls form small pools among the rocks on the hillside, so take your swimwear with you as you may be tempted to take a dip in warm weather!

The Faneromeni Monastery

Spend an afternoon exploring the Faneromeni Monastery, which is currently the only working monastery on the island. An annual festival is held here 50 days after Easter and a market is set up along the roadside. It is located near the village of Frini in the north of the island and its hilltop position affords wonderful views over Lefkada Town and across the sea to the mainland.

Cocktails in the harbour

Wander down to the port in Nydri and enjoy a traditional meal in one of the harbourside tavernas, followed by a cocktail or two in one of the bars.

Sea kayaking tours

Spend a day (4 - 6 hours) at sea, exploring the island and its crystal clear waters from a kayak. Visit secret caves and the island of Skorpios. Lunch and swim stops included.
