Perched above the coastal lane that gently winds its way to the sleepy villages of Petriti and Boukari, passing some of the island’s best seafood restaurants on the way, the magnificent sweeping sea views from this lovely property are nothing short of breathtaking and certainly rank amongst the best in our Corfu portfolio.

Undoubtedly this is a coveted location and the considerate local owners of Orizontas have gone out of their way to ensure that the benefits are fully maximised hence guests have at their disposal a gorgeous sweeping (suntrap!) terrace, a separate part-shaded dining terrace, much longer than average private swimming pool, natural foliage borders on either side of the property and direct sight of those remarkable 180°+ views from all the principal rooms via tall patio doors on the ground floor and glass-fronted balconies on the first floor.

Looking directly across the sparkling azure waters of the Ionian Channel to the Greek mainland itself the absorbing daily panorama is an ever-changing procession of watercraft of all shapes and sizes, romantically framed by a backdrop of distant rolling hills and a remarkable colour palette that becomes ever more vibrant as the sun rises.

Internally, comfort and quality are found in equally high measure. There is air conditioning throughout, each bedroom has its own en suite shower room, a further cloakroom sits off the open plan living/dining area while all furnishings are modern, comfortable and attractive. Subtle splashes of colour in selected pieces including in some of the bedroom linens coordinate very well with the soothing, predominantly fawn-coloured décor.

Should you for a moment feel you can tear yourself away from the lovely private pool then just 30m away, directly across the lane below, you can literally stroll into the sea for an alternative but no less refreshing dip!

And good amenities are all found close at hand including the famous Fisherman’s Haunt seafood taverna (1.7km to the left!) and the equally famous Boukari Fish Taverna (1.6km to the right!). Unpretentious Gialos Taverna is even closer at just 1km. There are also a couple of minimarkets for everyday essentials dotted along the coastal lane or head to lively Messonghi (2.4km) for larger supermarkets, bakeries, numerous shops, bars and restaurants as well as a popular sandy beach with boat hire and water sports.

  • Please note, a drop of about 1.5m from part of the pool terrace means that young children in particular would need supervision
  • The twin bedrooms can be prepared as doubles on request – please ask at time of booking.

Great Things to Do Near Orizontas

Visit the Achilleion Palace

One of the most famous royal mansions in Europe, some consider the Achilleion Palace to be the most important architectural landmark in Corfu. Built in 1890, entirely at the expense of the Empress Elisabeth of Austria (also known as Sisi), the palace acted as a quiet retreat for this controversial historical figure. You can stroll through the lovely gardens dedicated to her hero Achilles or simply enjoy the stunning architecture.

Experience the 'volta'

In any town or large village, especially on a weekend or holiday, the inhabitants of the town will congregate in the main square in the early evening, to have a stroll around, talk to their friends, have an aperitif or ice cream, before dispersing for dinner. It is the perfect time to people watch!

Visit Mon Repos

A visit to Mon Repos is well worthwhile. A royal mansion, with huge gardens, fountains, ancient trees and plants. Also famed for being the birthplace of Prince Philip. Mon Repos is only a 20 minute walk from the centre of the old town of Corfu, at the start of the Kanoni peninsula.

Visit an authentic local winery

If you want to see what really goes on in a winery on Corfu, then take a trip down towards Halikounas Beach and along the way you will pass the winery. It rough and ready, they only have a hand written sign on the road, and you will more than likely be tasting wine along with the owners dog and many cats. But the wine is great and extremely cheap and sold in empty used water bottles.

The Olive Oil Museum

Why not take a drive to the village of Aghios Matheas and visit the olive oil museum. Corfu is famous for its oil and trees, and the locals are very proud of their oil which is all hand produced. The museum lets you see the whole process of the making of the oil, from the tree right through to the finished product.

Halikounas Beach

Drive down to the south-west coast and discover an unspoilt area that has not been developed with tourism. Halikounas Beach is one of the best beaches on Corfu, with a beautiful sandy shore and gently sloping waters. Whilst there have an explore of the lake set behind the beach, and stop on the way home at one of the very traditional tavernas along the roadside.

A Visit to Lefkimi

Why not head down to the south of the island and visit the second largest town in Corfu. Lefkimmi is a traditional village which still has the charm of an old fashioned Greek town. Drive down to the river (Potami) and sit back at one of the cafes or local tavernas and watch all the locals go about their business. Then finish the day at the local beach, Boukari, at the mouth of the river.

Visit Lake Korission at the southern tip of the island

Go for a walk around the lake, watch the windsurfers just off the huge expanse of golden sandy beach, and explore the nearby Gardiki castle – a busy day out for all the family. And right on your doorstep too!

The Big Red Bus

Drive down to Corfu Town and pick up the Big Red Bus from the port. This relatively new service is an open-topped, 'Hop On / Hop Off' bus that takes you on a guided tour all around Corfu Town and the outlying areas. It's a great way to see and hear about the Town's history and highlights.

Visit Mouse Island (Pontikinissi)

What a lovely way to spend a half day, take a trip out to the Kanoni peninsula and enjoy a coffee on the waterfront café there, next to the Vlahernon monastery, which is also an island, but has been connected to the Kanoni peninsula by a small causeway. It's from this small causeway that you take the regular boat crossing over to Pontikinissi about a 5 minute boat trip away. Don’t forget your swimming gear, as you can easily have a lovely swim here.

Kite Surfing

If you feel in the mood why not try the Kite Surfing Club, based on Halikounas beach. Great for your teenage kids that want a day of excitement.
