Located in a prime position, just 70m from the shoreline and close to a popular beach front taverna (sesonal) serving traditional Greek cuisine, Sage Villa is a wonderful choice for those wanting to be close to the coast and amenities.

The property is approximately 10 minutes' walk from the large and impressive beach at Tavronitis, although guests will be pleased to know that there are plenty of spots even closer to the villa in which to relax and enjoy a cooling dip.

The village of Tavronitis is situated inland and can be reached on foot in approximately 15 minutes. It is a charming village that offers visitors a more laid-back experience compared to some of the busier tourist spots on the island. It is known for its rural charm, natural beauty, and proximity to both the sea and the mountains. Here you will discover several traditional tavernas and cafes, offering freshly prepared dishes, such as moussaka, souvlaki, and grilled fish, along with homemade raki and local wines. Dining in Tavronitis allows guests to experience authentic Cretan hospitality in a relaxed and unhurried environment. Close by there a handful of local shops where you can buy fresh produce and everyday essentials.

Sage Villa sits within a group of four villas sharing a gated entrance. Steps lead up to the accommodation which consists of a modern, light and fresh kitchen area with breakfast bar and the living space which opens out on to the inviting pool terrace, the perfect place to start your day. Both bedrooms have a contemporary minimalistic style and benefit from their own en suite shower rooms.

The nearby coastline is pebbly with clear waters, making it suitable for swimming, sunbathing and snorkelling. It does not get as busy as some of the more well-known beaches on the island, meaning a peaceful day by the sea can be enjoyed even during the most popular times of the year. For those seeking more action, boat trips and watersports are also available.

  • Being located close to the neighbouring properties Menta Villa (next door), Myrtle Villa and Diktamos Villa (both in front) means Sage could be a good choice for an extended family or a group of friends who can be near to each other whilst retaining their own individual space and privacy.
  • Sage Villa & Menta Villa are located next to each other and are a mirror image.

Ask for Dakos

A Cretan specialty served in most tavernas as a starter. Dried crusts soaked in tomatoes and topped with crumbled feta cheese and oregano – delicious!

Stretch the legs and explore the ancient site of Aptera

Here you can visit the remains of a very important city dating back to the 5th Century BC.

Chania harbour

Chania is one of the nicest towns of Crete with wonderful houses, parks and squares. The old city has preserved the charm of the Venetian and Turkish periods. On Leather Lane near the harbour, you can find all kinds of leather goods and a really interesting indoor covered market.  Restaurants and tavernas surround the harbour and boats leave from here for 2-3 hour trips, you can also catch a horse and buggy.

Try the Cretan hooch!

Raki or Tsikoudia is distilled from the stalks and skins of grapes left over from wine pressing. It is drunk widely and you are likely to be offered a thimble-full glass of raki wherever you go. It can contain anything between 35-65% alcohol – you have been warned!

Visit the main indoor market in Chania

This vast agora (market) is a bustling noisy and colourful place, where the abundance of fruit, vegetables, fresh fish, meat and everything edible is spread out over four sections fashioned like a cross. It is based on the famous marketplace of Marseille. There are plenty of bargains to be had and its great for barbecues!

Wine tasting at the Manousakis Winery Vatolakos

The perfect soil, sun, and weather conditions of Crete were the driving forces behind the first vineyards in the foothills above Vatolakkos.

Visit the local brewery

The local beer is brewed just up the road from the villa at the Xarma Brewery in Zounaki. They have a great tour and offer a tasting experience.

Visit one of the oldest olive trees in the world
