With a private infinity pool, and large terrace for al fresco dining, this comfortable hideaway has everything you need for a truly relaxing stay in Crete. Two well appointed bedrooms, each with their own en suite, off er a peaceful retreat after a day exploring the island. And when it’s time to eat, you’re just steps from a welcoming taverna overlooking the nearby beach serving the freshest grilled fi sh, while the larger sands of Tavronitis are only a 10-minute stroll away, with quieter coves close by for a cooling dip.

The villa itself has been designed with easy holiday living in mind. Steps lead up to the accommodation, which opens onto a contemporary, light-fi lled kitchen with a breakfast bar and uncluttered open-plan living space. Cool stone fl oors fl ow out onto a sunny terrace. This is where mornings begin with coff ee under the Cretan sky, and evenings end with a glass of local wine, as cicadas sing and the sky blazes with some of the Mediterranean’s most spectacular sunsets. The villa shares a gated entrance with three sister properties, making it an excellent choice for extended families or friends who want to be close, but still enjoy their own space.

When you’re ready to explore, the sleepy village of Tavronitis is a 15-minute stroll inland. Here you’ll discover family-run tavernas where homemade raki fl ows freely (“Yamas!”) and souvlaki, moussaka and honey-cheese pastries are cooked using recipes passed down through generations. From here, you could pootle from bay to bay, snorkelling in glittering turquoise water, or explore the pretty Venetian harbour of nearby Chania. The legendary pink sands of Elafonissi Beach (ranked among the world's fi nest) are also within striking distance. For those seeking more action, boat trips and watersports are readily available.

Few settings capture the essence of Crete quite like this stretch of coast. At Sage Villa, you’re perfectly placed to experience this ancient island at its most relaxed, most authentic, and most beautiful.

  • Being located close to the neighbouring properties Menta Villa (next door), Myrtle Villa and Diktamos Villa (both in front) means Sage could be a good choice for an extended family or a group of friends who can be near to each other whilst retaining their own individual space and privacy.
  • Sage Villa & Menta Villa are located next to each other and are a mirror image.

Ask for Dakos

A Cretan specialty served in most tavernas as a starter. Dried crusts soaked in tomatoes and topped with crumbled feta cheese and oregano – delicious!

Stretch the legs and explore the ancient site of Aptera

Here you can visit the remains of a very important city dating back to the 5th Century BC.

Chania harbour

Chania is one of the nicest towns of Crete with wonderful houses, parks and squares. The old city has preserved the charm of the Venetian and Turkish periods. On Leather Lane near the harbour, you can find all kinds of leather goods and a really interesting indoor covered market.  Restaurants and tavernas surround the harbour and boats leave from here for 2-3 hour trips, you can also catch a horse and buggy.

Try the Cretan hooch!

Raki or Tsikoudia is distilled from the stalks and skins of grapes left over from wine pressing. It is drunk widely and you are likely to be offered a thimble-full glass of raki wherever you go. It can contain anything between 35-65% alcohol – you have been warned!

Visit the main indoor market in Chania

This vast agora (market) is a bustling noisy and colourful place, where the abundance of fruit, vegetables, fresh fish, meat and everything edible is spread out over four sections fashioned like a cross. It is based on the famous marketplace of Marseille. There are plenty of bargains to be had and its great for barbecues!

Wine tasting at the Manousakis Winery Vatolakos

The perfect soil, sun, and weather conditions of Crete were the driving forces behind the first vineyards in the foothills above Vatolakkos.

Visit the local brewery

The local beer is brewed just up the road from the villa at the Xarma Brewery in Zounaki. They have a great tour and offer a tasting experience.

Visit one of the oldest olive trees in the world

The ancient olive tree of Vouves still produces olives, there is a small cafe and museum next-door.
