Positioned within the picturesque, unspoilt area of Halikounas, Villa Harys is a rare find in this sought-after corner of Corfu. Villa Harys enjoys an enviable location close to one of the island’s most beautiful stretches of coastline and the unique natural landscape surrounding Lake Korission.

From the front door, a short (5 minute) drive (or 30 minute a gentle stroll), brings you to the long, sandy beach of Halikounas, a wide, golden sweep edging the Ionian Sea, wonderfully tranquil even in the height of summer.

Between the dunes and the shimmering water of Korission Lagoon lies a protected nature reserve, home to an extraordinary variety of birdlife. Keen walkers and nature lovers will relish the opportunity to spot herons, cormorants and, in the right season, flocks of elegant pink flamingos feeding in the shallows. Meandering footpaths lead through the reeds and sand tracks, eventually reaching the area’s much-loved sea canal, plus ‘sunset spot’, where evenings are best spent simply watching the sky melt into warm shades of amber and rose.

Scattered among the surrounding lanes are a handful of welcoming local tavernas, perfect for lingering lunches or relaxed dinners after a day by the sea. Everything here moves at a gentle, unhurried pace, exactly the charm that makes Halikounas such a cherished retreat.

Villa Harys itself has been thoughtfully shaped by its caring owners, who have devoted considerable time and hard work to creating a warm and comfortable home-from-home. Their pride is evident in the details: inviting furnishings, carefully chosen furniture and, most notably, the lovingly installed private swimming pool. Surrounded by olive groves and open views, the pool offers a peaceful spot to cool off from the Greek sunshine, reflect on the day’s adventures or simply enjoy the gentle rustle of the trees.

Light, welcoming interiors flow out to a series of outdoor spaces where you can unwind at your own pace. From the first-floor balcony, vistas stretch across the mature olives towards the blue horizon, an idyllic place to begin the day with morning coffee or wind down as the evening light fades.

For those seeking a little more active adventure, a stay at Villa Harys can easily be combined with a visit to Kite Club Corfu. Just a short drive to Halikounas beach, Kite Club Corfu offers wind- and water-sport enthusiasts the chance to experience the Ionian Sea from a new perspective. Whether you’re a seasoned kite-surfer or a first-timer eager to learn, the club provides lessons, equipment rental and friendly professional support, a fun, adrenaline-tinged counterpoint to lazy beach days and laid-back evenings.

Villa Harys remains an ideal choice for those who want both tranquillity and activity. Wander to the beach, dine in nearby tavernas, call in at the local micro-winery for a tasting, take a lesson at Kite Club Corfu, or linger around your private pool, the pace is yours to set.

For a change of scenery, Prasoudi Beach (5.1km) lies within a short drive, a smaller, scenic bay framed by dramatic cliffs. The traditional market town of Agios Matheos (5.5km) offers a minimarket, cafés and friendly tavernas in a charming hillside setting.

Meanwhile, the coastal village of Mesonghi (8.8km), around fifteen minutes’ drive, provides a wider choice of amenities and waterside dining.

Peaceful, authentic and beautifully connected to its natural surroundings, and offering the potential for both restful and adventurous days, Villa Harys will provide you with a memorable stay in one of Corfu’s most atmospheric locations.

Location of Villa Harys

Locality

Great Things to Do Near Villa Harys

Sail over to Paxos

Paxos is a tiny unspoilt idyllic island, full of olive trees and oozing with charm. There are just three coastal villages with Gaios being the most well-known. Well worth a day's visit.

Visit Lefkimmi

Lefkimmi is a traditional village which still has the charm of an old fashioned Greek town. Drive down to the river (Potami) and sit back at one of the cafes or local tavernas and watch all the locals go about their business. Then finish the day at the local beach, Boukari, at the mouth of the river.

Sunset Views

Enjoy wonderful sunsets from the near by Alonaki Bay.

Livadiotis Winery

A family run business located just 650m down the road from Maxim. They uprooted olive trees to plant vineyards in the late 80s. Try their Kakotrygis wine, which is in their words, "a red wine pretending to be a white".

Explore Corfu Town

See the palaces and Venetian fortresses and explore the old town that is home to the Greek Royal family during their annual vacation. Prince Philip was born here, in Mon Repos palace.

The Governors Olive Press

Corfu is famous for olive oil. Take a short drive into the village of Agios Matheos and visit this museum to learn about the significance of the olive in Greek and Mediterranean culture, and see how olive oil is produced from the tree to the bottle.

Birdwatching

Keen ornithologists will be pleased to discover the bird watching area at Lake Korission, where there is the opportunity to see several different species of wading birds, amongst others.

A fun day out at Aqualand

Corfu Aqualand, near to the village of Agios Ioannis, is one of the largest water parks in Europe and features 51 slides, several pools, a lazy river and a wide variety of other water attractions. There’s something for all ages here and it is a great way to keep the whole family entertained.

Snorkelling

Take a trip down south to Alonaki beach where the water is sublimely clear and protective rocks create a perfect bay ideal for snorkelling.

Try a typical Corfiot dish

One of the many local dishes created here on Corfu, Bourdetto is a spicy fish stew made from freshly caught scorpion fish. Be warned, you have to eat this dish with your fingers and a lot of bread for the salsa (sauce), as it is a very bony fish, and is far too fiddly to try to eat with a knife and fork, so eat it the local way!

Local summer festivals

In July & August, many of the villages round about hold evening festivals, with local produce and then a communal meal is prepared with everyone joining in.

Play a round of golf

You'll find the island's golf course close to Ermones on the Ropa Valley (west of Corfu Town). This excellent course (one of only half a dozen in all of Greece!) was created by the British during their time of occupation.

Walk to Monastery of Pantokrator

Follow the sign in Agios Matheos, there is a trek up the mountain, ending in spectacular views over the sea.

Horseback Beach Ride

Trek, on horseback, through sand dunes and along the beach and water. A magical experience!

See Corfu from the Water

Hire a boat, skippered or self sail and see Corfu from a different angle!
