This pleasing outlook can be fully appreciated from the attractive grounds of the property, where terraces of typical terracotta tile adjoin both floors of the house and look down onto the swimming pool and its surrounding lawn and terrace. To the side, a covered barbecue area is perfectly positioned for the preparation of meals al fresco.

Equally enticing is the welcoming interior, which exudes quality and comfort throughout its spacious and homely rooms. Elegant soft furnishings, colourful artwork and smart floors of terracotta are to be found in the open plan living area, beyond which a corridor leads to the downstairs bedrooms. Upstairs, both bedrooms benefit from en suite facilities and access to a partly covered terrace via French windows that frame the picturesque vista.

At El Sabuco, you are in the heart of the Alpujarras and perfectly positioned to explore this exceptionally beautiful area. Follow the country road on which the house is situated and wind your way up through the hilly countryside behind to reach the pretty mountain villages of Pampaneira, Bubión and Capileira, which nestle in the hillside below the National Park of the Sierra Nevada, against an impressive backdrop of the high peaks. Pampaneira is only 8km from the house and offers some good local restaurants within its delightful network of narrow cobbled streets, whilst the lively market town of Órgiva is just 10 minutes away by car.

Alternatively, head north to discover the ancient city of Granada with its fascinating old Islamic quarter and imposing Alhambra palace and gardens (just 50 minutes away) or enjoy a scenic drive of some 45 minutes through the mountains to reach the beaches of the Costa Tropical.

Shop for ceramics and textiles.

Colourful tiles, plates, jugs - the most traditional styles are green and blue adorned with birds, flowers or pomegranates (granadas). You'll find some of the best in the Alpujarran village of Pampaneira.

The nearby town of Lanjarón is the 'gateway' to the Alpujarras

and is a spa town with baths dating back to Roman times. You can visit the Balneario for some relaxing treatments or try the excellent mineral water then wander round the old town which has typical Alpujarran architecture.  In the evening visit the Arabic Castle and enjoy the views over the surrounding valley.

Salobreña village

This 'pueblo blanco' is a maze of cobbled alleyways with quaint houses bedecked with colourful flowers. After your visit, take the children snorkelling at the artificial reef which has been built down by the beach.

Every Thursday morning, from 8am - 2pm, there is street market in the centre of Orgiva, just a 10 minute drive from the house. It is a bustling and colourful event. All sorts of things are sold here including fruit, vegetables, spices, arts and crafts, plants and jewellery.

The Alhambra in Granada is the jewel of the city.

Formerly a palace, fortress and small city, it was once the residence of Arabic sultans during the 13th and 14th centuries. The gardens are amazing, with walkways, fountains and beautiful flowers. The complex is rightly now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Visit the Albaicín, the old Moorish part of Granada.

Wander through the alleyways with their colourful bazaars selling all sorts of souvenirs, and try an authentic Moorish tea with Arabic pastry in a 'tetería'.

Great fun for all the family plus regular parrot shows to entertain the children in the summer.
