Coast and country are wonderfully combined in this elegant southern Spanish retreat which sits gracefully within a whitewashed façade of turrets and patios amidst the picturesque landscape of Mediterranean woodland that stretches beyond the sandy coastline of the Costa de la Luz.
To find such a spacious and stylishly designed home within such close proximity of the sea is rare and we could not contain our delight as we stood before the tall gateposts of Finca la Gorriana having driven only 6.5km from the charming coastal town of Conil de la Frontera. As we then wound our way up the property’s driveway, through the estate’s attractive grounds of wild olive trees, and stepped through the arched entrance into a bougainvillea-strewn patio with an elegant fountain in its centre, we knew instantly that this special home would soon become a firm favourite with guests.
Housing five en suite bedrooms within the main house and an additional suite with shower room and kitchenette in a separately accessed annexe, the spacious rooms flow stylishly around a charmingly Andalucian layout of patios and courtyards. Generously furnished with abundant soft sofas and two tables for dining, the main living room opens through arched doors onto a wide courtyard with a covered terrace spanning the full width of the property’s façade for outdoor dining. On the other side, a door from a second sitting room leads the way to another attractive courtyard where the swimming pool sits alongside flower-filled borders, a shaded seating area and a sun terrace for lounging. Just beyond here, accessed by a door from the swimming pool courtyard, a wide area of lawn looks out across the green canvas of gently undulating natural landscape.
Thoughtfully planned to combine coastal and country elements, the interior décor displays elegant antiques and carved wooden furnishings alongside pastel-painted pieces and attractive fabrics to reflect just how close this rural retreat is to the sea. It is, in fact, only a 13 minute drive from here to the beach. Beyond the entrance gates of the property an unmade country lane winds its way through picturesque countryside for about 1.8km and then meets the road that leads into the bustling seaside town of Conil de la Frontera. Here you will find a lively centre of higgledy-piggledy streets and squares, lined with a mouth-watering selection of appetising menu boards and restaurant terraces. Just beyond, the golden sands of this beautifully unspoilt coastline stretch in a seeming endless curve towards the equally charming seaside villages of El Palmar and Zahora.
