From the neat lawned grounds that flank the front of the property little is revealed of what lies beyond, and as we stepped inside we could not fail to be delighted with the smart home that awaited us. Imaginatively designed to create a secluded space that seamlessly incorporates interior and exterior areas for relaxed holiday living, its light filled rooms wrap themselves around three sides of a terraced courtyard. Here we found a spacious covered section with in-built barbecue for al fresco catering, a separate dining terrace, and in the centre, an eye-catching pool of stylish black tiles looking out onto a backdrop of lush green woodland.
Lined with French doors and wide windows, the living rooms and principal bedroom look out onto this attractive outdoor area, their stylish décor and carefully selected furnishings perfectly reflecting the owner’s desire to create a calm, attractive space for happy gatherings. Beneath a high ceiling of wooden beams and honey coloured stone, the sitting room is decked with deep cushioned seating and a colour scheme of soft maritime hues. Next door, the dining room connects easily via sliding doors to a fashionable kitchen of sleek units and in-built appliances. Upstairs, a further area of soft seating is provided for lounging by the TV on the first floor.
It is not only the house that makes Casa Ukiyo an enticing option for a holiday by the sea. Equally attractive is its setting, since the picturesque cove of Cala Morell is within pleasingly close proximity. A stroll of 700m will reveal the sheltered bay and a series of levelled rock platforms below the cliffs and just above, a restaurant offering local cuisine and lovely ocean vistas. Also not to be missed are the twin sandy beaches that line the rural bay of Algaiarens and the historic harbour town of Ciutadella, both of which are just a 10 minute drive from the house.

along the Cami de Cavalls. The start of the path is just up the road from the Necropolis and the walk takes just a few hours. Look out for the monument to the General Chanzy, which was a mail ship that sank off the coast there in 1910.
Stay and watch the sun go down. The locals say this is one of the best spots on the island to watch the sunset.
