Natural unspoilt Mediterranean grounds envelop this comfortable finca creating an enchanting base in which to take a break from everyday routine. Inside, a colourful décor generates a light and airy milieu, tasteful furnishings create a stylish but unfussy blend of contemporary and traditional whilst lofty beamed ceilings, ceramic wares and textured Mallorquin fabrics define its truly unique character.
Set back from the road connecting the town with historic Arta, Finca Son Barbot offers an excellent selection of amenities and fun ‘holiday things to do’ to entertain whilst transforming into "relax mode". A spacious pool terrace (accessed via steps) hosts magnificent views across the topography from either the well equipped summer kitchen, dedicated chill out area or the popular upstairs balcony. Billiards and table tennis will certainly distract some, whilst a tennis court serves for the slightly more serious players.
The municipality of San Lorenzo stretches from the small market town, across a striking, undulating meadow panorama incorporating the village of Son Carrió, before reaching the sandy shores of a beach with the same name (Platja de San Lorenzo) - a scenic 15 minute drive making the journey there as exhilarating as the final stop. The beach of Porto Cristo is closer still (11km) with golden sand and calm waters of this pretty enclave. Five minutes in the car from Son Barbot to the centre of San Lorenzo, Plaza Nova becomes a bustling square every Thursday as the age-old traditional market sets up stalls laden with artisan crafts and delicacies side by side with fresh fruit and vegetables picked that very morning from nearby allotments. Coffee shop terraces extend from this busy spot linking other points of interest such as the 13th Century parish church and the emblematic windmills dotted about the town.
A day mixing and mingling with the locals in Artà may also prove to be one of the highlights of your stay. With a part-pedestrianised route connecting the historic centre with the surrounding Boho-chic neighbourhood, an aura of artistry and creativity permeates this atmospheric town. Nestled below the impressive ramparts of the San Salvador Fortress sit handicraft stalls brimming with wickerwork, lace and costume jewellery, eclectic art galleries and even a performing arts theatre. Pizzerias, artisan patisseries, ice-cream parlours and Parisienne-styled bistros have also given Artà a reputation for being one of Mallorca's most interesting gastronomic destinations.
For those seeking something a little more energetic than lazing around the pool sipping a glass of something chilled: a series of natural beaches and water inlets provide numerous choices for beach and snorkelling days, three excellent golf courses are close at hand and intriguing cave formations such as the Caves of Drach welcome would-be explorers, as does a small Safari Zoo giving the option to drive or take a train through the natural surrounds of its inhabitants.
From this convenient location there is something to appeal to all ages and interests whilst plenty of space for 'Me Time' makes regrouping in the evenings even more of a pleasure.
