Festival of Life
From July 1st to September 15th, Poreč becomes a large open-air stage as it begins celebrating its Festival of Life. Only a 15-minute drive from Višnjan, Poreč transforms with music, street performances, movies and shows.
All free of charge, the varied programme mostly takes place in the summer evenings on the streets and in the square of the town. Film screenings can be enjoyed as the sun sets by the beautiful Villa Polesini on the waterfront.
Events also take place on Sveti Nikola Island such as the Princess ball held against the enchanting backdrop of the castle there, an exciting spectacle for youngsters with lots of activities for them to take part in.
These are just a few things that Porečs open air Festival of Life has to offer and there are plenty more not be missed.
Waterpark
Slide, splash and enjoy Aquacolors, the largest waterpark in Croatia. Located just outside of Poreč, it’s a great way to cool down from the summer heat. There are 13 giant waterslides, Europe’s longest lazy river, a wave pool, a children's pool and 5 restaurants. Extra attractions are added frequently so there is something to entertain all ages.
Truffle Hunting
The forests around the charming village of Motovun have some of the best truffle hunting opportunities. Truffle hunting experiences can be booked to learn about where the tradition originated from, how truffle hunting dogs are trained and the best way to eat and enjoy truffles. A trip up to the village itself will lead to restaurants where the delicacy can be enjoyed.
It may be possible to try truffle hunting at night. Whilst the forest is quiet and calm the truffle hunting dogs work by the glow of hunting lamps.
Visnjan Observatory
This observatory is one of the most successful at discovering asteroids but it is also keen to educate people of all ages and offers guided tours and lectures one evening a week in the summer. Originally located in Višnjan itself, a new observatory was built 3km north on a hilltop in Tičan in 2005.
The new observatory has a unique design with influences from Romanesque chapels. A spiral staircase rises into the heart of the observatory where Dagor, the 1-meter diameter telescope, resides. During the evening tour of the observatory there is the opportunity to learn more about astronomy and discover objects through the telescope.
