Polis
A 15 minute drive takes you from Argaka to Polis, the main town in this northwest corner of the island, offering shops, bars and restaurants, and other amenities including banks and supermarkets. The Polis area is well known for its fresh fish, so be sure to try the fish and seafood here. There are also charming craft shops to browse.
Latchi
This fishing village close to Polis has retained its quaint yesteryear charm, and has a nice seafront promenade lined with bar-cafés and restaurants. Just beyond Latchi, you can visit the Baths of Aphrodite, a natural pool where the Greek goddess of love and beauty is said to have bathed. The pool is set in a tended garden that is open to the public, and there is a restaurant with a great sea view.
Walks and nature
The nearby Gialia Nature Trail is a well signposted walking route, mostly flat apart from an initial steep section. Information plaques tell walkers the types of plants and trees along the way, and you’ll want your camera to hand to capture the superb vista of Chrysochous Bay.
Beyond Polis lies the beautiful Akamas peninsula, a protected natural park crisscrossed by footpaths and edged by lovely little coves and rocky headlands. The Aphrodite Nature Trail is a marked route which starts near the Baths of Aphrodite.
