About Assos

The town

Assos is a small village on the northwest coast of Kefalonia, built around a narrow isthmus that connects to a pine-covered peninsula. The village sits in a dramatic natural setting, with steep hillsides rising behind pastel-coloured houses that cluster around a sheltered horseshoe bay.

A leisurely stroll through the narrow streets reveals quaint shops, traditional tavernas, and cosy cafes in which to enjoy local cuisine and fresh seafood. A highlight is the Venetian castle set above the town, offering panoramic views of the Ionian Sea and the surrounding landscape. The fortress dates from the 16th century and sits atop the peninsula, reached by a winding path through pine trees.

The beaches

Nearby beaches are perfect for swimming and sunbathing, while the clear waters invite snorkelling and other water activities. The area is also great for hiking, with scenic trails that lead to breathtaking viewpoints. The small pebble beach curves around the bay directly below the village, with calm, turquoise waters.
