Introduction
Picturesque beaches of fine white sand and clear waters make Cangas a popular area for locals and visitors alike. Also known as Cangas de Morrazo, the town sits across the estuary from the city of Vigo and ferries can be taken from Cangas port across the water to Vigo and other places of interest.
There are numerous places for grocery shopping in and around Cangas, whether it be in the large supermarkets or the local independent shops selling fresh produce from the area.
Food & Drink
There are plenty of options for dining out around Cangas. With a large selection of the town’s restaurants located to the back of the port area overlooking the water. Seafood and tapas in traditional Galician styles can be found in abundance in this area. Along the beaches around Cangas small, charming chiringuitos will open up in the summer months with outside seating overlooking the beaches, serving food and drinks during the day and occasionally offering live music in the evenings.
The Cies Islands
The beautiful Cies Islands are visible from Cangas and are a short ferry crossing away from the port. The number of visitors per day is limited as the islands are now protected due to their popularity. The most well-known beach on the Cies Islands is Playa de Rodas, which was once voted the world’s best beach by the Guardian newspaper. As well as stunning stretches of sand, there are numerous hiking trails to follow across the islands and an abundance of wildlife to spot and admire.
Beaches
If you can tear yourself away from your private pool, you’ll find a number of beaches in the Cangas area to choose from. The beaches of Santa Marta and Limens are joined forming a seemingly endless stretch of sand to enjoy. Further round the coast are the beaches of Barra, Viño and Nerga, each separated by rocky outcrops which are quite fun to scramble over. There are beach bars here in the summer months and water sports to be enjoyed. There are more small, natural beaches along the coast from Cangas and the beach of Rodeira, in Cangas town where you will find restaurants and also a pleasant coastal promenade.
