The flavours of the Mediterranean have never been so well captured as in this classic Provençal villa, whose sun yellow façade, olive green shutters and azure swimming pool provide a warm welcome to those visiting this charming corner of Provence. With St Paul de Vence just under a kilometre away uphill, this superlatively comfortable house has become a firm favourite.

A covered terrace provides cooling shade from the heat of the Provençal sun, and inside sumptuous furnishings and amply proportioned living spaces flow seamlessly: from the classically chic kitchen with convenient breakfast bar to the elegant living room replete with tasteful furniture.

Keen swimmers will no doubt make the most of a ground floor bedroom with access to the pool terrace, and three well-appointed bedrooms on the first floor complete the picture. St Paul de Vence lies on your doorstep for evenings spent in one of the delightful restaurants overlooking the views, which are well worth the short steep walk from the house.

Further afield, the delights of Antibes, Cannes and the beaches of the famous Côte d’Azur are all within easy reach for a day trip, or perhaps the flower market at Nice will draw your attention from lazy days spent by the pool.

Wander round Vence

This medieval hilltop village is popular with visitors due to its largely intact city walls. It is also famous for its spring water, which can be collected from numerous fountains in the town. The cathedral was built in the 4th century on the site of a Roman temple, and a mosaic by Marc Chagall in 1911 is a notable later addition. Modern and contemporary art is on display in the Fondation Emile Hugues housed in the former chateau.

Markets

A market is held every morning in Vence's place du Grand Jardin, the perfect opportunity to buy fresh locally produced ingredients, and on a Wednesday second hand book and antique dealers also gather to trade. Or head for the old town of Nice where the daily flower market in the charming Cours Saleya square is a fragrant sight to behold.

Pamper yourself...

Why not book in for a massage or a pampering day at the small Spa & Beauty Salon in St-Paul, 'Le Mas de Pierre', or in one of the larger thalassotherapy centres along the Cote d'Azur.

Matisse Chapel

The Chapelle du Rosaire de Vence was designed by renowned artist Henri Matisse and was completed in 1951. Its fairly simple forms and white walls allow the beautiful stained glass windows to take centre stage and vivid yellow, green and blue light streams across the interior. Three large tile murals adorn the walls and the priests' vestments were also designed by Matisse.

Musée Renoir

This museum dedicated to the work of Pierre-Auguste Renoir is just 4km away in Cagnes-sur-Mer.
