Located just a few minutes from the beautiful Salento coastline, including the famous ‘Maldive’ beaches of Pescoluse and Posto Vecchio, Aquamarina is perfect for a get-away-from-it-all beach holiday. Its spread-out accommodation and grounds would particularly suit two couples or individuals looking to holiday together yet able to retreat to their own space.
The heart of this appealing property is the covered terrace beside the house, framed by flowing white drapes for extra shade or privacy. You are likely to spend lots of time here, lingering over meals, relaxing in the midday shade, or chatting into the evening with a backdrop of cicadas and stars.
Walking inside, you arrive in the living room which is flanked by the kitchen, a shower room, and an attractive bedroom, whose décor appropriately reflects coastal colours and textures. The second bedroom and shower room are in a separate building, with its own little pergola, giving extra privacy. The exposed stone walls of the traditional pajara take centre stage in this bedroom, and it is well lit thanks to a skylight in the roof.
The generously sized plot is dotted with Mediterranean shrubs and trees, with natural landscaping and snaking pathways between the main house, the pajara, the barbecue and the pool area. The large poolside terrace offers plenty of space for sunbathing, whilst the adjacent pergola invites alfresco meals or reading by the pool.
The nearest restaurants and minimarkets are just 1.4km away. Furthermore, about 5 minutes in the car will bring you to the local beaches of Torre Vado (1.7km) and Posto Vecchio (3km), the latter offering a long stretch of temptingly soft sand and shallow waters, so lovely that it is often compared to the beaches of the Maldives. Sitting at the very tip of the heel of Italy, the nearby harbour town of Santa Maria di Leuca (10km) is known for stunning coastal walks, caves, and restaurants overlooking the meeting of Adriatic and Ionian seas. Further afield, the larger towns of Lecce (78km) and Otranto (57km) are well worth a visit for their history and culture.
