Enticing views across the gentle blue waters of the River Minho spread out before you like a picture at this stylishly appointed village home which sits off a cobbled lane within easy reach of the riverside amenities and local restaurants of Seixas.

Its advantageous position, on the banks of the river that flows between Portugal and the Spanish region of Galicia, gives the charming village of Seixas a special appeal. Within the typically cobbled lanes that wind their way past homes and smallholdings, a local shop, cafes and two restaurants are all within 600m of Casa Seixas whilst down on the waterfront itself another restaurant enjoys a wonderful location on the shore, just 1.1km from the house.

It is not just the riverside that is close to hand. Ten minutes away by car to the south, the river meets the open ocean alongside the elegant town of Caminha from where idyllic stretches of long sandy beaches, backed by dunes and pine forests, line the beautifully unspoilt shoreline of the Costa Verde and a delightful series of fishing villages and coastal ports.

Equally pleasing is the accommodation which has been restored and re-modelled by its current owners to provide a home that is spacious, light and takes full advantage of its river views. Facing west towards the water, with the rolling hills of Galicia visible in the distance, its typical stone façade is punctuated with wide patio doors that accentuate the spacious ambience of the living room and provide easy access to the pretty lawned garden and pool. Next door in the kitchen, another set of doors opens onto a covered terrace for outdoor dining whilst upstairs on the first floor the three en suite bedrooms all benefit from windows that look towards the water. A spacious games room on the lower ground floor completes the scene, providing a welcome retreat for games of pool and relaxing on the sofas.

Take a stroll...

Take the local train down the coast to Porto...

The single track local service travels down the coast between Seixas and Porto 5 times daily in the summer months calling at all 27 villages en route.

Explore the charming fortress town of Valenca, a short drive north of the house, this delightful border town is steeped in history...

Drive through the ancient archway that leads the way through the impressive walls that encircle the old quarter to discover cobbled streets and a delightful range of shops selling the beautifully embroidered towels and linen for which the town is famous.

Spend the day relaxing at one of the nearby river beaches...

River Beaches are very popular in Northern Portugal as the water tends to be warmer and calmer than the Atlantic. There are several river beaches nearby and some have picnic areas and cafes.

Explore Porto...

Porto is a fascinating and atmospheric city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site to boot! An easy transport option is to drive to the Metro station at Póvoa de Varzim. From there, take the Metro to São Bento Station in the city centre. This is recommended as parking can be quite difficult in the centre of Porto and there is often a lot of traffic.

Lie back and relax...

next to your private pool. Enjoy a cold drink whilst you admire the views from the poolside across the river.

Why not spend a day in Spain...

From nearby Caminha, hop on the water taxi which makes frequent trips across the small stretch of water that separates Portugal from Galicia. This is a fun way to reach this beautiful corner of Spain, which boasts some superb beaches and is renowned for the quality of its seafood.

Enjoy delightful Moledo town and beach...

A traditional village famous for it's beach and a popular getaway destination for Portuguese VIP's. Enjoy a range of watersports, take a boat ride to the Insua Fort with one of the local fishermen or enjoy the range of bars and cafes lining the beach.

Admire the stunning views...

Watch the sunset from the garden whilst you enjoy dinner.

Enjoy an evening meal overlooking the water...

at the nearby restaurant on the banks of the River Minho.

Spend a day in Ponte de Lima, one of Portugal's oldest towns...

Spreading lazily along the tree-lined banks of the River Lima, this is a beautiful town with fine buildings and pretty cobbled squares. Visit on a Monday morning and you may be fortunate enough to witness the local market, which is held on the sandy river beach every other week.

Visit the charming harbour at Vila Praia de Ancora, just a short drive down the coast...

For a gastronomic feast, be sure to buy some of the fresh fish you will see being landed there to cook on your barbecue.

Go bird watching along the river banks in Seixas...

The banks of the Minho are home to a unique habitat for wildlife. This protected area is made up of reed beds, salt marshes, mudflats and marshy wetland, making it excellent for bird watching.

Hit the surf!

Afife beach is arguably Northern Portugal's number one surf spot. A seemingly endless stretch of sand blessed with a consistent Atlantic swell makes this the perfect place for surfers and those keen to enjoy long rambles along the beach.
