Those seeking a well-appointed property just a short stroll from the waterfront of one of the most authentic fishing hamlets to be found along this stunning coastline will be hard-pressed to find a better location than this. Montmar enjoys a wonderfully convenient position on the road that leads into Tamariu, just 290m from the village centre and its delightful seafront, making a car a non-essential element of your holiday

Spread over two floors this charming Mediterranean home enjoys abundant natural light and a layout designed for easy living and relaxation. The ground floor incorporates a well-equipped kitchen that opens onto a smart, generously proportioned living/dining area, beyond which is a twin bedroom and a shower room. Upstairs you will find four comfortable bedrooms comprising two twin bedrooms, one double bedroom, a family bathroom and a master bedroom with en suite facilities.

If the enviable location is one highlight perhaps the second highlight is the spacious sunbathing terrace that spills out, via bi-fold doors from the indoor living area, to create an appealing inside-outside living space for children and adults alike. Large families or groups of friends who enjoy al fresco living will delight in the outdoor covered kitchen/bar, where a gas barbecue, mini fridge and sink make outdoor meals an enjoyable and fun experience. A collection of tables, chairs, and sunbeds for dining, lounging and sunbathing plus a table tennis table, dart board, and swimming pool provide for a fun-filled holiday; you can almost smell the intoxicating mix of suncream, chilled local wine and platters of freshly grilled prawns.

A pleasant stroll downhill, along the road that passes by the house, leads us to the centre of Tamariu; a pretty village tucked between two hills, the translucent waters of its bay sparkling varying shades of blue in the sunlight. Mass tourism has not reached this hidden gem but there is a small selection of shops and grocery stores plus a sprinkling of fine seafront restaurants. Boat and kayak hire are available on the charming sandy beach that curves around the bay in the shape of the croissant you will dip in your coffee after an early morning swim.

  • Air conditioning is £150 per week, payable in advance of your holiday if required.
  • There are 22 steps from street level up to the house
  • Property Licence No: HUGT-033952-23

Great Things to Do Near Montmar

Take a stroll down from the house

to the unspoilt fishing village of Tamariu and enjoy an evening meal in one of the fine seafront fish restaurants. Evening is a truly Mediterranean experience! As dusk falls local artisans set up stalls and perhaps a local artist will set up their pitch. Waiters start serving platters of grilled fish, while the Mediterranean laps gently on the shoreline.

Take the ‘Cami de Ronda’ footpath

that leads from Tamariu beach to Llafranc along the coastline and then over the headland to neighbouring Calella de Palafrugell. It is well signed and will even give you an idea of how long it takes to walk it! If you don’t want to walk back, catch the little tourist bus which will take you up to the lighthouse from where you will enjoy breath taking views down the coast.

Drive to the centre of Begur and climb up to the castle

from where there are far reaching views. The most noteworthy are those towards the Medes Islands, long ago a refuge for pirates and smugglers, although today they are famous as a marine nature reserve.

Drive over to Llafranc’s seafront...

and meander along the promenade to the marina to gaze at the boats. Before heading back, stop and enjoy a leisurely drink whilst engaging in a spot of people watching.

Walk amongst all the different exotic Mediterranean flora and fauna

at the Botanical Gardens of Cap Roig, where you get magnificent panoramic views of the coastline that stretches from Calella to the cliffs of Cap Roig.

The experience of the so called ‘Dalinian Triangle’ for lovers of art and culture is a ‘must’.

The three places to visit are his home in Cadaqués (pre-booking necessary), the Teatre-Museu in Figueres and the Gala-Dalí Castle in Pubol. This will be a long day excursion but very informative and entertaining!

Scenic greenway between Palamós and Palafrugell

Follow this 6-kilometre stretch of scenic greenway, which is ideal for both walkers and bikers. Mountain bikers will love the many opportunities to deviate into the forest which hugs the spectacular coastline here. Mountain bikes can be hired and delivered to the house, enabling you to take full advantage of this stunning location.

Drive a few miles inland

and visit the many ancient stone villages that make up what is known as the “Golden Triangle”. Stop for lunch in Peratallada and then visit the fascinating farm museum in the tiny village of Palau Sator.

Visit the pre-Roman Iberian settlement on the headland to the left of the El Castell beach.

Walk among ancient stone walls and enjoy the spectacular views out to the Isles Formigues, where bottle nosed dolphins have often been spotted feeding.

Montgri Castle

Montrgi Castle is the symbol of Torroella de Montgri! The panoramic views from the top of the towers take in almost the whole of the Empordà, from the Bay of Roses, Empúries, Canigó Massif, the Pyrenees, Montseny Massif, the Gavarres Mountaints, the Baix Ter and back to L’Estartit with the Medes Islands.

The Medes Islands

These Islands and their marine life, just a mile off the coast, are in a protected Marine Natural park and are one of the most important in the whole of the Mediterranean. Divers come here from all over the world, as they are considered to be such an important site.

Take a short drive and

visit the wine cellar of Mas Oller (on the outskirts of Torrent) for a wine tasting. Then pop into the village and visit the Jam Museum on the Plaça Major.

Visit the spectacular Greek and Roman settlement of Empuries.

Enjoy a lunch of fresh anchovies in L'Escala, as they are a local speciality. On the way back climb up to the Castle of Montgri (Torroella de Montgri) and take in the spectacular views of both the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean.

Visit the Sunday morning Market at Palafrugell

and soak up the atmosphere with a drink in the main square. Later visit the magnificent wine store of Jordi Grau and enjoy a glass of wine with a tapa.

taking in the beautifully restored Jewish Quarter, the Arab Baths, the cathedral, its museums and the many shops.

Parc d’Aventura

Fun for all of the family in this forestry adventure park. There are 50 different activities ranging from jungle jumps, nets, bridges, zip wires, tree-hiking and more than 300m of aerial runways. Situated in Camí del Bernegar, Masos de Pals.

Wander around the cobbled back streets of Palamós

and visit the numerous “Tapas” bars. Or perhaps take a guided tour on foot and by sea following the footsteps of the Turkish Pirate “Barbarosa” who ransacked the town of Palamós in 1543.

Catch the train and visit Barcelona for the day.

There is so much to see and do in this vibrant city. Take the open topped tour bus and hop on and off at the different sights. After a lunch of delicious tapas save some energy for shopping in the elegant shops.
