An enviable position on the western edge of the pretty coastal neighbourhood of Torre Soli provides this attractive holiday home with rustic country views to the rear, an outlook onto the shimmering waters of the Mediterranean to the front and easy access to the restaurants, bars, shops and long golden beach of Son Bou.

Entering via the front gate, you will find yourself in a pretty lawned garden, shaded to the rear by the leafy boughs of an elegant palm tree and bordered on all sides by lush hedges. Alongside the pool a sun terrace beckons for relaxing days at home; just beyond, an in-built barbecue is ideally positioned for preparing meals al fresco whilst adjoining the first floor twin bedroom is a balcony from where you can soak up enticing vistas of the nearby ocean.

Displaying a neat décor of crisp white walls and traditionally tiled floors, the attractively presented interior is thoughtfully arranged over two floors, with both first floor bedrooms enjoying sea views from their south facing windows. Being conveniently close to the house, the sandy shores of this stunning coastline will no doubt become a regular haunt and from Casa Maria Jesus you have various options for days by the sea. Either head west and pick up the rustic footpath that weaves its way through the countryside to discover the delightfully unspoilt natural beach of Atalis (some 25 minutes on foot from the house) or follow the road through the residential area to soak up the bustling ambience of Son Bou. The shops, bars and restaurants of this family friendly resort are 1.4km away whilst its sandy beach is just a short distance beyond.

Even closer to hand, in Torre Soli itself, a walk of just 160m will bring you to the local supermarket and the nearest restaurant is 800m away. With everything so close to hand you may not feel the need to use the car, particularly since the local bus provides services not only between Torre Soli and Son Bou but also to the nearby market town of Alaior and Maó, the island’s historic capital.

Take in the views

With the clear. blue sea to the front and the pretty Menorcan countryside to the side, the views are stunning throughout the day, but particularly beautiful in the evenings.  There are few better places to watch the sun set, turning the sky into wonderful shades of orange and red that are reflected in the sea before dipping below the horizon.

See how the first Menorcans lived

with a visit to Torre d'en Galmés, just a few minutes drive away.

Learn about Alaior´s past

by doing the tourist route where you can see panoramic views over Menorca from the roof terraces at the Santa Eulalia church and walk in the underground tunnels that were used for shelter during the civil war.

at the Menorca donkey rescue centre.  Entrance is free but please take a bag of carrots or apples along to feed the donkeys.

Wander around the old quarter in Alaior

and lose track of time in the labyrinthian streets where you will find a variety of independent shops and boutiques.  Make time to stop for a coffee and try some of the “ dolços” , which are little cakes typical of the town.

Every Tuesday night in the high season, in Mao there is live music on the street.  A variety of artists is always available and this can be anything from an opera singer to a rock band, and these are all dotted around the squares in the centre. Trotting races

The tradition of trotting races dates back almost 100 years in the Balearics and is not practised anywhere else in Spain. An afternoon at the races is a must for any lover of equestrian sports and it is very child friendly. The Maó Municipal Hippodrome, on the Maó-Sant Luis road, holds races on Saturday afternoons (May to October). Grab a table, order yourself a drink and place your bets!

Sample Xoriguer gin

at the 18th century distillery on the port of Mao. Although it is not possible to tour the factory, it is possible to see enormous copper stills, bubbling to produce the spirit. The gin was first distilled in Mao to cater for the tastes of the thousands of soldiers and sailors who were stationed in Menorca when it was under British control in the 18th Century.

Explore the cave houses

Take the path up the cliffs from the basilica and wander around near the top.  There are dozens of cave houses dotted around, some with pretty gardens and terraces.
