Distinctly more imposing than the typical holiday home, Ses Cases Noves sits perched amidst the picturesque, terraced slopes of the rugged western coastline. This grand Finca bears witness to the Serra de Tramuntana spilling down to converge with the sparkling Mediterranean, creating far reaching aquatic vistas bordered by a succession of villages clinging to an unspoilt shoreline of craggy coves, secreted watery inlets and lush undulating topography, surpassed only by the daily ritual of spectacular glowing sunsets.

Positioned on the fringes of the modest village of Banyalbufar this antiquated, rustic farmhouse has recently undergone a complete renovation, transforming it into comfortable yet very stylish accommodation. Ornate Juliet Balconies with green painted shutters, stone clad wall features and natural stone arches blend seamlessly with contemporary furnishings and a modern, fully equipped kitchen. In keeping with the interior design, open tread stairs lead to an upper level with capacious bedrooms and an ample, sea view terrace.

A sizeable pool is the protagonist of the exterior, sufficiently large enough not to disappoint even the more energetic members of the group. Surrounded by a natural setting of orange trees, grape vines, almonds and herbs swathing the terraced terrain and of course those marvellous sea views, rustling up a barbecue to savour on the terrace is an absolute pleasure.

A short stroll into the small village of Banyalbufar offers a surprising selection of amenities including a handful of eateries, a local store and bank ATM. Also known as the "terrace town", this enchanting hamlet was renowned for its cultivation of the Malvasier grape grown across some 2,000 terraces, during the months of July and August this sleepy village springs to life with a series of open air Jazz Concerts organised by the townhall to promote local musicians as well as reputed foreign artists. Coupled with a gastronomic route through the bars and restaurants in July, the laid back vibe becomes somewhat less sluggish as various tapas with a main ingredient of Ramallet tomato, accompanied by generous 'drams' of the local Malvasia Wine are offered to those participating in the festive affair.

The surrounding areas of Banyalbufar are ideal for keeping the ‘active’ just that - from Ses Cases Noves' position on the MA-10 road entering the village, hiking and cycling trails are literally on the doorstep, plus neighbouring villages such as Estellencs, Deia and Soller can also be reached on foot following marked rural trails, (an alternative scenic drive is just as invigorating for the not so adventurous). The pebble beaches of Es Corral Fals, Son Bunyola and Es Port des Canonge are also closeby, nestled at the foot of terraced slopes, accessed on foot or by car down a substantial descent. The picturesque towns of Esporles, Puigpunyent, Valldemossa and Andratx provide the chance to scrutinise local handcrafts and agricultural products at leisure whilst soaking up the local ambience.

A 30-minute drive transports you to the upbeat city of Palma de Mallorca with its striking monuments such as Le Seu, Almudaina Palace and the gardens of S’Hort del Rei, wide sandy beaches, some serious retail therapy plus a cache of art, craft and history museums. The local bus stop in the village offers yet another mode to explore and enjoy this beautiful part of the island.

Planning day trips out around this diverse island is all part of the fun - however make sure you're back in time to grab a glass of something nicely chilled from the fridge and claim your front row seats to enjoy the spectacular sunset each evening.

  • Air conditioning usage is on a timer (12 hrs per day)
  • There is an open tread staircase in this property
  • Due to the nature of the terraced grounds and water deposit, small children must be supervised
  • The licence number for this property is ETV/3444

Great Things to Do Near Ses Cases Noves

The coves

Coves worth a visit during your stay are Port de Valldemossa, a small fishing port with a couple of good restaurants, Es Port des Canonge and the small cove at Cala Deià

Valldemossa

Enjoy strolling around the back streets of the beautiful town of Valldemossa and a visit to La Cartuja is a must. Chopin spent a winter living in the Carthusian Monastery - a very interesting monastery with its old pharmacy and lovely views over the valley.

Palma, an interesting and beautiful capital city

A 30 minute drive takes you to Palma, or you can catch the underground from Palma University - Palma has an abundance of shops and interesting historic buildings such as the Cathedral, Almudaina Palace and Bellver Castle. There are also several art museums including the Krekovic and Miró museums.

The prettiest village in Mallorca?

Stroll around the picturesque village of Fornalutx with its stone-clad houses - some say it's the prettiest village in Mallorca. Try the lemon meringue pie (home-made with real fresh lemons grown in the Sóller Valley) at Ca'n Antuné Restaurant.

Market days

There is at least one market every day of the week somewhere on the island of Mallorca: The bustling market in Valldemossa on a Sunday morning is full of locally grown fresh fruit and vegetables, as is the Saturday morning market in Sóller. Sineu market on Wednesday is the only market which still sells livestock including goats, sheep, ducks and rabbits. At the smaller square by the church you will find the locally produced fresh fruit and vegetables.

Spectacular scenery over the mountains

Drive over the Tramuntana mountain roads via Deià, Sóller and Lluc as far as Pollença, enjoying the scenery including the two reservoirs, Gorg Blau and Cúber, on the way.

Alfàbia and Sóller Botanical Gardens

Sóller houses the Balearic Museum of Natural Scienes offering exhibitions related to Mallorca’s zoology, geology and botany, as well as a botanic garden. And on the Sóller to Palma road, just through the tunnel, are the Alfàbia Gardens which are certainly worth a visit (closed on Sunday).

Boat trips

To be able to admire the rugged coastline from the sea, there are boat trips from Sóller to Sa Calobra and also in the south east from Sant Elm to the small nature reserve island of Sa Dragonera.

Vineyards and local wine

There are several vineyards worth visiting, the closest ones are in Santa Maria and Esporles. At Bodegues Macia Batle in Santa Maria and the famous Bodegues José L. Ferrer, you can visit and try their wines. No visits during the grape harvest in September although Binissalem does have the wine festival which is worth joining in.

The romantic home of the Archduke Luis Salvador

Son Marroig, now a museum, was once the home of Archduke Luis Salvador of Austria who loved the Balearic Islands so much, he wrote a famous book about the islands. This can be found on the road between Valldemossa and Deià.

An historic stately mansion

In Esporles you can visit La Granja, a large historical mansion with gardens, fountains, ancient trees and plants, wild and domestic animals, where you can also see a demonstration of ancient handicrafts, tools and machinery and taste the Mallorcan specialities such as jams, cheese, fig cake, sobrassada and moscatel.

Simulated Battle of the Moors and Christians...

....This takes place on the 2nd Monday in May. The townsfolk of Sóller dress up to celebrate part of their history and victory over the pirates. A colourful and merry festival that is worth watching.

Nearby Sóller with its famous train

Spend time discovering the beauties of Sóller and the Port of Sóller - just sitting in the main square watching the world go by, taking the old-fashioned open air tram ride through the orange groves from Port de Sóller to Sóller or the train ride through the mountains from Sóller to Palma.

Scenic drive to the north east

Going further afield in a north-easterly direction, drive through the villages and typical Mallorcan countryside towards Son Serra de Marina, and when you reach the main Ca'n Picafort to Artà road, turn right towards Artà where one of the local trades is basket making. Find a country lane to the Hermitage of Betlem - enjoy the views overlooking Colònia de Sant Pere in the Bay of Alcúdia. Go back along the same lane to Artà and then on to Capdepera to see the castle.

Discover Deià

Deià is set further along this beautiful coastline heading northwards. This well-known village is neatly set in the hillside with spectacular views out to sea. Famous people have made this their haven including Michael Douglas and Robert Graves. Robert Graves’s house, Ca N’Alluny, which is less than a kilometre from Deià, has been converted into a museum and is open to the public. (Parking can be difficult in Deià.)

Palma Aquarium

Experience one of the greatest aquariums in the world, discover the secrets of the underwater world from the shallow coral reefs to the mysterious deep blue, be surprised by the richness of the Mediterranean, the dazzling coral reefs and colourful fish that make this subaquatic oasis so spectacular. Discover a world stalked by sharks and rays and follow the misty river paths while reaching out to the water falls as you explore the exotic jungle.

Waterparks and Marineland

There are several waterparks in Mallorca - in Port d'Alcudia, S'Arenal and Magalluf. Marineland which has excellent dophin, sea lion show and parrot shows is on the road to Palma Nova at Costa den Blanes.

Nature Park at Santa Eugènia

The Nature Park at Santa Eugènia is an ideal way to spend a morning with children visiting the small zoo where they also help wounded animals and birds and participate in conserving local fauna which is in danger of extinction.
