Not far from one of the island’s fascinating, historical talaiotic villages, amidst scenic countryside of meadows, wild olives and indigenous shrubs, we were delighted to discover this charming early 19th Century farmhouse which has been restored and refurbished over the years by its proud local owners to provide a picturesque and characterful rural retreat.

As we were shown around the spacious grounds, we were particularly captivated by the secluded garden, which blossomed with the rich colours of flowering shrubs, the silvery-grey leaves of mature olives and the ripening fruits of lemon trees.

Almost entirely encircled by one of the charming stone walls so typical of Menorca’s rustic landscape and bordered by the lush foliage of mature trees and plants, this outdoor area provides the most picturesque of surroundings in which to enjoy the generously proportioned pool, its adjacent sun terraces and the in-built barbecue area which is conveniently located on a terrace just outside the kitchen. At the same time, however, it is within pleasingly easy reach of the island’s south eastern towns and beaches: just 4km away the city of Maó rises above the southern shore of its bustling, restaurant-lined harbour; a cross-country drive of the same distance reveals Sant Climent with its local shops, restaurants and laid-back village ambience; for days on the beach a range of sandy coves can be reached by way of a 15 minute drive.

Within the house itself, lofty ceilings and traditionally deep walls of crisply painted white ensure a pleasing sense of spaciousness throughout smartly furnished rooms. Adding delightful character, original fittings such as an eye-catching front door embedded with colourful stained glass and some typical fireplaces are just some of the charming features that have been carefully retained.

  • Talati de Dalt is a short drive from the airport and this means that aircraft noise can be heard from the house.
  • Air conditioning is on a timer
  • Property Licence No. CE0747ME

Great Things to Do Near Talati de Dalt

Visit the Talaiotic Village

The village, from which the house gets its name,is one of the best conserved on the island and just a short walk away.   Wandering around the ruins of buildings dating back to the iron ages really gives an incite into what life must have been like for the first Menorcans.

Sant Climent

As an alternative to Mahon, visit Sant Climent for shopping and dining.  This small, sleepy village is just 4 km from the villa and is reached by driving along delightful country roads.

Port Mahon

The port in Mahon is the second largest natural port in the world.  Take a trip around the harbour on one of the glass-bottomed boats during the day,  visit the Isla del Rey in the centre, where the British built a naval hospital in the 18th century and see the impressive "La Mola" fortress.  Return at night to dine in one of the excellent restaurants that line the edge.

On the way to Sant Climent

stop at the Fornas de Torello early Christian basilica to see the impressive mosaic floors.

Do nothing

but relax in the pretty gardens.

Visit Es Grau

Explore the nature trails around the fresh water lake before spending time on the beach.  The water is shallow here, so this is a great choice of beach for children.  If you want to get away from the main beach, take the bridal path to Cala Tamarells, a pretty and undeveloped sandy cove.

Hire a bike

and explore the Menorcan countryside by taking some of the cycle routes close to the villa.

Go to the zoo

The 'Lloc de  Menorca' is just a few minutes drive along the main road toward Alaior and is home to a curious mix of Menorca's indigenous species and other wild and wonderful creatures.  There are many enclosures where it is possible to enter and interact with the animals.  After a walk around the zoo, have a drink in the bar in the company of parrots.  Make sure the little ones take a towel and swimwear as the wet playground is a big hit in the hot weather.

Cala Mesquida

is just a short drive from Mahon Port and is a beautiful cove offering safe, shallow bathing and a wide sandy beach.  There are no facilities at the beach, but there is a small supermarket and bar in the quaint fishing village nearby.

Buy local dairy produce

direct from the farm that is  just a short drive along the main road towards Alaior.  Look out for the sign "Venta Direct de Quesos".

Go to the Races

The tradition of trotting races dates back more than a 100 years in the Balearic Islands and is not practised anywhere else in Spain. An afternoon race is a must for any lover of equestrian sports and it is very child friendly.

Live music in Mao

Every Tuesday night in the high season, in Mao there is live music on the street.  A variety of artists is always available and this can be anything from an opera singer to a rock band, and these are all dotted around the squares in the centre. The shops stay open too until 11pm and the bars all have their pavement terraces set up so you can grab a drink and tapas and listen to any groups that you like.

Discover Alaior

by doing the tourist route where you can see panoramic views over Menorca from the roof terraces at the Santa Eulalia church and walk in the underground tunnels that were used for shelter during the civil war.

Grab a bargain

at the weekly markets in Mao, held on Tuesday and Saturday mornings.

Fish market

Not just for shopping for fresh fish and shellfish, it is also a gourmet tapas market.  There are different stalls selling a huge variety of tapas, snacks, wines and beers, mostly locally made, which can be eaten in a communal dining area.

Visit Monte Toro

This is a must do for anyone visiting Menorca. The Island's highest point offers the most fantastic views of the whole Island and even over to Mallorca on a clear day. The mountain is home to the Sanctuary of the Verge de Toro, as well as an excellent cafe/bar and a few gift shops.
