From the moment we entered and were greeted by a vista of sparkling azure sea, seemingly infinite as it stretched out ahead of us to meet the horizon beyond the green grasses and dunes of Son Bou’s pretty, natural shoreline, we were in no doubt that this smart coastal home would soon become a firm favourite with guests.

With a stylish décor of muted tones and clean lines that perfectly complements its enticing maritime backdrop, this is a home that exudes comfort, calm and a happy appreciation of its privileged seaside setting. Facing south to the ocean, the light-filled living area forms the hub of the home and connects seamlessly to the outdoor terraces and poolside through wide patio doors on its sea-facing façade. Out here, a covered patio provides the ideal setting for al fresco meals and relaxing gatherings whilst just below, the pool and its surrounding sun terrace are equally well placed to take advantage of the ever-changing seascape that spreads out ahead.

Situated off a pleasant residential lane at the western end of Torre Soli, Villa Olga enjoys easy access to shops, restaurants and beaches. Just 130m along the road from the house is a convenient local supermarket whilst the nearest restaurant is 650m away. For days on the beach, you can either follow a rustic footpath through the countryside beyond the western edge Torre Soli to discover the delightfully unspoilt natural beach of Atalis (some 30 minutes on foot from the house) or follow the road through the residential area to enjoy the bustling ambience of Son Bou. The shops, bars, and restaurants of this family friendly resort are 1.4km away whilst just beyond it are the sweeping golden sands of the island’s longest beach.

Great Things to Do Near Villa Olga

Do nothing..

...but relax and admire the views

Take a stroll through the countryside

to Es Forn de Torre Soli Nou and have lunch there.  The views are as amazing as the food and the walk only takes about 20 minutes.

Spend a day on the beach at Son Bou

The largest beach in Menorca is pretty impressive and has a whole range of amenities and activities available.

Take a trip to Alaior

It is a lovely, typical Menorcan town with narrow streets and hidden squares to explore.  Learn about the town´s history by doing the tourist route where you can see panoramic views over Menorca from the roof terraces at the Santa Eulalia church and walk in the underground tunnels that were used for shelter during the civil war.

Craft Market

Visit the craft market in Alaior on Wednesday evenings in the summer months.  Apart from lots of stalls selling goods made by local artisans, there is live music and entertainment on the street.  It all adds to a lovely atmosphere.

Meet the donkeys..

..at the Menorca donkey rescue centre.  Entrance is free but please take a bag of carrots or apples along to feed the donkeys.

Go to the zoo

The `Lloc de Menorca` is just a few minutes drive along the main road towards Mahon and is home to a curious mix of Menorca`s indigenous species and other wild and wonderful creatures. After a walk around the zoo, have a drink in the bar in the company of parrots.

Visit the Son Bou basilica

Built in the late 5th century and early 6th century, the Paleochristian basilica is one of the best remnants left by the first Christians on the Balearic Islands.

Explore the cave houses

Take the path up the cliffs from the basilica and wander around near the top.  There are dozens of cave houses dotted around, some with pretty gardens and terraces.

Wander around the old quarter in Alaior

and lose track of time in the labyrinthian streets where you will find a variety of independent shops and boutiques.  Make time to stop for a coffee and try some of the “ dolços” , which are little cakes typical of the town.

Visit the Lloc de Menorca, the island´s only zoo.

The Lloc Menorca is a new concept of zoo park where they are committed to different environmental, conservation and enrichment programmes in order to guarantee a better quality of life for the animals, many of which are rescue animals.
Go deep into the lemurs forest, where you will be able to discover these friendly and curios animals. Take the chance to feed the friendly goats and watch the mischievous behaviour of the macaque monkeys.

See how the first Menorcans lived

with a visit to Torre d'en Galmés, just a few minutes drive away.

Live music in Mao

Every Tuesday night in the high season, in Mao there is live music on the street.  A variety of artists is always available and this can be anything from an opera singer to a rock band, and these are all dotted around the squares in the centre. The shops stay open too until 11pm and the bars all have their pavement terraces set up so you can grab a drink and tapa and listen to any groups that you like.

Buy local dairy produce

Coinga, on the industrial estate in Alaior, makes delicious cheese from milk collected from the farms in the area. The shop is open to the public and although there are no tours of the factory, its possible to see the cheese being made from the viewing area.

Make a Splash!

Take the children to the Club San Jaime and let them play on the giant water slide.

Sample Xoriguer gin

at the 18th century distillery on the port of Mao. Although it is not possible to tour the factory, it is possible to see enormous copper stills, bubbling to produce the spirit. The gin was first distilled in Mao to cater for the tastes of the thousands of soldiers and sailors who were stationed in Menorca when it was under British control in the 18th Century.

Learn about Alaior´s past

by doing the tourist route where you can see panoramic views over Menorca from the roof terraces at the Santa Eulalia church and walk in the underground tunnels that were used for shelter during the civil war.

Trotting races

The tradition of trotting races dates back almost 100 years in the Balearics and is not practised anywhere else in Spain. An afternoon at the races is a must for any lover of equestrian sports and it is very child friendly. The Maó Municipal Hippodrome, on the Maó-Sant Luis road, holds races on Saturday afternoons (May to October). Grab a table, order yourself a drink and place your bets!
