About Callas

Food and eating out

There are several restaurants to choose from in Callas, and the ubiquitous bar on the square where you can mix with the locals. The weekly produce market is held on Saturday morning.

The Pennafort Gorge

Nearby, the spectacular scenery of the Pennafort Gorge can be enjoyed on foot or on horseback. Little paths lead through wooded valleys and past rocky spurs, to a stunning waterfall and to the domed Notre-Dame de Pennafort chapel. Also in the Gorge is a highly regarded gastronomic restaurant, perfect for a treat or special occasion.

Olive oil museum

In the 19th century, the industry of the village revolved around pressing olives for oil, especially the local ‘ribier’ variety. From around 20 mills in those days, nowadays only one working mill remains and sells various Provençal products, and there is a mill-museum that has been preserved as it would have been in 1950.

Getting active

If you’re looking for somewhere to burn off some energy (or wear out some youngsters!), there is a treetop adventure park in Flayosc, canoeing and kayaking at Roquebrune, a water park and canoeing again at Vidauban, all of which are only 30-35 minutes’ drive from Callas.
