About Fourcès

Introduction

Fourcès is a charming medieval Bastide classified as one of the most beautiful villages of France. In the centre there was once was a château, now replaced by a lovely round square planted with plane trees under which people play boules and festivities take place. The picturesque half timbered houses with arcades that encircle the square look like a theatre backdrop or a film set. They house several shops and restaurants, creating a lovely atmosphere for this little community.

Food and markets

The Gers is well known for its gastronomy, based around a large variety of fruit and vegetables, duck produce, garlic, honey and cheese. You will find plenty of locally grown, seasonal produce on the markets in this area, such as in Condom and Montréal-du-Gers. Also, Fourcès sits among the vineyards which produce the best Armagnac, known as ‘Ténarèze’, as well as wines and other specialities.

Festivities on the square

Various events take place on the pretty square in Fourcès during the course of the year, such as a flower market at the end of April, a bookfair on the third Sunday in July, and flea markets every second Sunday of the month from May to October.

Family fun

Just 10 minutes away is an even more stunning little village: the fortified village of Larressingle. A tiny but extremely well preserved medieval walled village, it is a magical place to walk around. And a visit here can be combined with the medieval camp reconstruction which is right next door, where children and adults alike can enjoy coming face to face with catapults and trebuchets and other weapons and techniques from the Middle Ages!
