The village
Typical of bastide villages, the streets are laid out in a grid pattern, and surrounded by an outer rampart which you can walk along to admire the views of the surrounding countryside. In the heart of the village, arcaded stone and half-timbered buildings line three sides of the attractive square. The Mairie (town hall) holds court on the fourth side, facing the Eglise St Jacques, a 16th century church built around a 13th century defensive tower which makes for a striking entranceway. The shell above the Renaissance door is a reminder that the village lies along one of the traditional pilgrimage routes towards Santiago de Compostela.
