About Gastouri

Beaches

The local beach between Perama and Benitses is a pebble beach and the surrounding hills offer popular walking trails.  Myrtiotissa beach at around 30 minutes is famously described by the author Laurence Durrell in ‘Prospero’s Cell’ and the sandy beach at Halikounas around 36 minutes from Gastouri has soft sand and shallow swimming water.  It is popular with kite surfers and has a nearby taverna.  At 35 minutes’ drive you will reach Alonaki, a sandy stretch of beach, its sheltered position keeping any wind at bay.

Aqualand

The Aqualand water park is less than 25 minutes from Gastouri.  Open May to early October, the park boasts a huge variety of slides and pools suitable for all ages (from young children to ‘young-at-heart’).

Visit Corfu Town

Corfu Town is just less than 20 minutes’ drive from Gastouri: sightsee around the town on the little tour train, indulge in some shopping in one of the many shops in the town and try the local cuisine perhaps washed down with a Corfiot ginger beer, a slightly spicier version of the brew we have in the U.K.

Paleokastritsa

The island beauty spot of Paleokastritsa is set around three principal bays. If you are driving (it would take around 35 minutes from Gastouri) stop just above Skipero on the main Sidari road for a fantastic view and photo opportunities of this treasured spot of Corfu.

Mouse Island

The Vlachernon monastery on the Kanoni peninsula is just over 20 minutes’ drive from Gastouri.  From here, you can walk along the causeway and take the 5-minute boat trip across to Pontikonissi and the monastery of the much photographed Mouse Island.
