Beaches
You willl be spoilt for choice based at Trapezaki: the local beach offers shade from trees along the shoreline, the lovely beaches of Lourdas are just a 10-minute drive from Trapezaki beach, Agios Thomas is even closer at just less than 2km away and Mounda Bay’s sandy beach is a little further at around 40 minutes’ drive, to name just a few.
Explore
The famous Melissani Cave is 50 minutes away and worth a visit. It is a beautiful sunken lake divided into two caves, which can be visited on a guided boat tour.
The island’s capital, Argostoli is about 20 minutes from Trapezaki. The town offers a selection of shops and restaurants and the Argostoli Museum houses antiquities from all over the island including Roman and Mycenaean pieces.
Dating back to 1262, St George’s Castle (20 minute drive) is an interesting place to visit. The castle was once the island’s capital, a mini city with churches, houses for noblemen and officials, a prison and hospital within its walls. Only a few buildings have survived but it is still worth exploring.
Activities
Nearby Lourdas is home to The Escape Club where you can hire boats and explore the coastline, don’t forget a picnic and your snorkelling kit!
Approximately an hour away lies the Mount Ainos National Park where you can park your car 750m from the summit or walk/cycle from further down the mountain (the choice is yours).
Take a trip to the Robola Winery at Omala, open to the public daily for most of the year.
Kefalonia's Patron Saint
Just less than 30 minutes from Trapezaki you’ll find the peaceful monastery of the island’s Patron Saint – Agios Gerasimos. Saint Gerasimos is believed to protect Kefalonians and heal them of illness. Pilgrims come to the site to pay special homage on feast days in August and October.
